By writergirlliz, Saturday, July 25, 2009, 2 commentsLooking for a dog? There are some amazing rescue groups out there that pull dogs from high-kill shelters in the south and transport them all over the country to new, safe homes. These groups are working on limited time and money, and they need sponsors for every dog they save or the shelters won't turn them over. If you've been thinking about adopting a dog, visit one of these websites:

Miss Capa or Little Checcha
Charles Savoie---currently my only dog arrived as a stray in my driveway December 28, 2007. I took photos and sent to area city animal shelters, took out ad in paper, posted notices on phone poles. No one claimed her. Fully grown 13.2 pound Cairn Terrier. Unbelievably, she jumped and climbed over 5 foot fence twice. After second incident, I barricaded gate. It's the only section facing the street. She now stays in yard. That was why someone did not want her back---too much stress worrying about her going over fence. I named her Miss Capa, but all dogs at my residence historically have had secondary names so hers is "Little Checcha." This dog invited herself to share bed with me. In winter she plows under covers. The Great Deputy Dog's secondary name? He as the greatest had several including "Dabogens Ta." Silly maybe, but they are too unique to not have unique names. Sadie's other name was Miss Peaslee. Then there was Frosty ("Frosta") a Samoyed of whom a song says "Now he comes to me from the North country---snow white hair, beauty beyond compare." He made the Polar Star diamond look like garbage.
