Resolutions and revolutions
By writergirlliz, Thursday, December 31, 2009It’s New Year’s Eve, and two things just occurred to me: One, that I haven’t blogged in a really long time. Two, that it’s that time of year when everyone wants to make resolutions.
I’ve gotten away from committing to a full year resolution over the past few years. So other than resolving to keep up with my blog, I’m going to take it day by day. When I wake up in the morning, I’m going to make a resolution for that day, whether it be to write 2,000 words or show compassion for someone who is annoying me -- whatever will serve me best on that particular day.
In conversation with a co-worker about this issue, he said he wasn’t going to make any year-long resolutions either, and that the whole holiday was like any other day. I pointed out that there is something special about the start of a new year, the promise of a clean slate and what opportunities lie ahead.
He said, “But that can be any day.” And he’s right.
So whether your new year begins tonight, next month or next summer, may you do what’s best and right for you, and live well.
Happy New Year!
