Avoid Back Pain, Don't Kiss Your Own Ass
By WineNotWhine, Saturday, March 20, 2010, 1 commentsHave you ever heard the story of the person who got the game winning monopoly piece off his McDonald’s cup and anonymously mailed it to a Children’s Hospital? Forgoing millions, he/she gave without asking for any type of credit or appreciation. The act of giving itself was enough for him/her.
Obviously, stumbling onto millions of dollars is a rarity; but, any type of giving, no matter the size or form, is great. A good deed is a good deed is a good deed. To me, there is just something even more admirable and genuine about a giver who doesn’t ask for anything in return.
Not to say that a good deed isn’t deserving of a thank you, but people who go around talking about how much they give or what all they’ve done chip away at some of the good for me. I question motive when someone is obviously seeking an outcome other than simply the satisfaction of having done something for someone else.
It’s understandable to want others to know when you are proud of something you’ve done. We all seek acceptance, respect and appreciation, and I agree that there are situations where we should be able to brag on ourselves; however, at some point you risk working against yourself and your efforts.
Think about all the random acts of kindness you’ve heard about. I think you’ll find that the most touching ones, the ones that warm your heart the most, asked nothing in return. Do something nice just because you’ll know you did it, and because that alone brings you fulfillment.

Giving
I have always loved giving and this is a great reminder that so many want something in return. From the littliest thing of telling someone their brake light is out to donating, it makes you feel wonderful and it's YOUR secret.
