The Promise. . . .

What is love? Is it simply the promise of potential bliss? Does anyone really know how to define it?

Honestly, how many times have you said “I love you” and meant it …not referring to Haagen Dazs or a new pair of stilettos but a to a flawed human being?

Sometimes we wrap so much into the promise of what’s to come, that we miss what is. So much anticipation for the little box, the “knee” moment and the oft times, sparkly finger chain- I mean ring… .

What’s the rush to be deemed perfect by the imperfect?  Why the hurry to get one, pick a perfect one and show it off? How can it ever express all of the essence that you are in fair trade silver or gold?

Are you even sure it’s from Mister or Misses “Right”? Maybe not, but at some point or another we all feel a bit of pressure to obtain the mark that signifies our passage into adulthood. We send smoke signals, mixed signals and wish they’d hop to and give it to us- right now…

Maybe I’m a rebel but I think love is being able to live in the moment, be a seasoned lover because your longest affair is the one you’re having with yourself and to consciously spend a lifetime expressing, redefining, exploring and rediscovering the forms of love, lust and friendship that — mature relationships can offer.

Shouldn’t “the one” capture your attention and hold it? Something did that to me recently, I was looking at the re-purposed ring collection that I’ve added to my eco boutique and wondering, what was it about these forms of vintage adornment that spoke to the romantic in me. I finally figured it out.

I like the notion that this ring is on its second life because sometimes people deserve a second chance. I’m enamored with its old world qualities because I deserve chivalry with a touch of vintage style and I honor the collections classic design because  when it happens, love can be simple, memorable  and “ooooh-so-elegant”…
