Did you know: The World Is Yours . . .

For all the indie, smart, hip, bohemian, planet loving sexy people out there who don't know-- gentle reminder "the world is yours!" and in light of that small fact, Erda and Magaly, the ladies who run EcofashionWorld.com (EFW) agree that not only do you have a right to know about the latest and greatest in sustainable style but we expect you to execute a carbon foot print lowering plan that inspires others and makes your "frenemies" green with envy-- pun intended!

"But who are these revolutionary eco-nistas?" Well, Erda and Magaly have granted me a rare all access pass behind the "Eco Fashion World" media empire. So, stay tuned!

Q: Who are the eco-nistas that propel the Eco Fashion World site?

Erda: Our team consists of our 3 co-founders: Kim Poldner, Aaron Handford and I (Erda); our amazing editor, Magaly Fuentes; and our fabulous group of international writers.

Q: Would you clue us in to a few timeless eco wardrobe classics for those new to and looking to diversify their style?

Erda: Timeless trends..well if you are in the cold countries, tall boots, and cozy knits.  Also, white dress shirts and wide leg pants seem to be popping up in the s/s collections, which I always feel are timeless.

Q: Inspiration is always important, what inspired the conception of "EcoFashionWorld.com"?

Erda: A desire to develop an eco fashion resource that would encourage people to share, educate, and inspire while working toward the same goals as a community that appreciates fashion and is concerned for our planet.

Q: Why is your team so passionate about eco indie designers?

Erda: We have a fabulous team of writers from all over the world; it just happens to be that several are passionate about the indie movement.

Q: What are 3 things that anyone could do to add eco-style to their wardrobes that they don't often associate with a cost effective way to be planet

friendly?

Erda: Buy quality, not quantity.  Invest in a few key items supporting longevity of a product.  It may seem a little more costly at first but these are items you can wear from season to season instead of spending on many trendy inexpensive disposable items.
Support local.   It may not appear to be what you would think an"eco" item to be, but supporting someone in your neighborhood, city, or country can all contribute to a more sustainable shopping experience.  The product may have not had to travel far, maybe it was made by hand, or maybe it was made by people who are getting paid fairly.  Check out your local markets this holiday season to support the local arts and craftsmanship in your city!  (A great place to get high quality affordable gift items)

Accessorize! Can't afford that fabulous designer blazer -- How about opting for the more affordable funky scarf, bracelet or other accessory that will spice up your wardrobe?  They are also easy items to order online as you don't have to worry about sizing.

Q: EFW's best kept secret has escaped: The Guide, how does a new user get the most out of the guide and use it to meet their gift needs this holidays season?

Magaly: Simple, go to our home page and click on the icon labeled “category” to search through a range of items including jewelry, hats, footwear, lingerie, swimwear, men’s separates and more.  You can also shop by brand on online store if you are looking for something from a specific label or boutique.  The guide is user-friendly and a perfect gift-shopping assistant!

Q: EFW is not all Olsen pumps & vegan polish, What is the purpose of EFW's Education resource section?

Erda: The purpose of the Education section is to help inform people about what is going on in the world of eco fashion.  I have so many people still ask me "what is eco fashion anyway?".  In this section people can find out about different organizations that are supporting the eco fashion movement in one way or another.  They can see that there are many books out there to learn from (including DIY handbooks), they can visit a growing number of blogs based on eco fashion which is always a great way to gauge other people’s perspectives.  Also, there seems to be an increase in courses available surrounding the topic of
sustainable fashion which is very exciting and through our Education section, visitors can look into these types of programs.

A misnomer is that eco fashion is not chic and that it is a passing trend.  We hope through education that people will see that eco fashion can indeed be very chic and that it is absolutely more than a trend – it is in fact a powerful movement.

Q: What does the Brand Guide offer and why is it important for consumers to get familiar with the brands their dollars support?

Erda & Magaly: The brand section of the Guide features many different designers.  Consumers can go here to find a variety in styles, all which meet a set of eco criteria. A consumer can go to the Guide to get a sneak peak of what that brand has to offer.  If they like what they see, they can easily click on a link which will take them directly to that brand’s website or online store.  The point is to make the "eco" shopping experience easy.  If people can learn a little a long the way, great!  I think people like to know where their money is going, and they like to know they are supporting a good cause.  Informed eco-shoppers can walk away from a purchase feeling excited about a fun addition to their wardrobe and the fact that they know exactly where it came from and how it was made, without harming the environment.

Q: In these tough economic times in the world and specifically the United States, your "Green Jobs" resource is timely! Have any of your readers gotten employed due to it?

Erda: Possibly, we wanted to give the companies in our guide an opportunity to post their jobs to our viewers. I know the jobs are getting filled and this is a great question for us to take back to our supporters and research. The green jobs section is just our way of paying it forward and complimenting the community feel we mentioned earlier.

Q: EFW keeps it readers in the know via its News section, what are some exciting things readers should know?

We try to cover a broad range to give our readers a bigger perspective of how many areas eco fashion is fully influencing.  This range covers everything from events, sales and new brand launches to more serious industry news regarding standards, ethics and policies being implemented.  Eco fashion is constantly evolving and we hope to provide the information about the evolution from all angles.

Some upcoming news will include:

Our ongoing collaboration with Eco Fashion Week Vancouver - next event will be in February and where you can purchase your Eco Fashion Week water bottle

designed by Gisele Bundchen & SIGG

And you can stay updated on all news through our Facebook Page as well.

Q:  What is the mission of EFW, who are your ideal readers and what makes it a unique destination?

Erda & Magaly: The mission of EFW is to encourage people to share and inspire.  It is about making it easy for a consumer to find a product that they will feel good supporting.  It is about educating people on their choices.  It is about being part of a movement and inspiring others to support it. Our ideal reader is someone who is eager to learn and be part of the change that is necessary.

Some of the things that make EFW a unique destination are: our ever-growing Guide and our commitment to both the brands/designers/stores listed and the users; our fabulous team of diverse, extremely authentic, educated and warm natured people who are extremely approachable and willing to share; our commitment to bringing our readers the full scope of the eco fashion movement through our content.
