well, finals are over and I can exhale now which meannnsss....Christmas is here!
I am amazed at how quickly time has gone by this semester. As excited as I am that graduate school is passing quickly, I also don’t want to completely miss out on 3 years of my life. I hear that as you get older time goes by more quickly. I remember waiting for Christmas to come when I was a little kid. My dad was a preacher, so we always went to a Christmas Eve service at church. I used to get a “Christmas outfit” every year to wear for the big Christmas Eve night. I would spend months picking it out.
As the service went on, I felt butterflies in my stomach. I would be so excited that I could hardly sit still. I would savor every word of the Christmas carols and I would excitedly wait for the lights to go low and my candle to be lit. “Silent Night” was magical.
I actually used to wake up around 3am in the morning on Christmas Eve night (or I suppose, early Christmas morning) and tiptoe out to the tree using the flashlight I had stowed away when I went to bed that evening. I would comb through the presents, shaking and weighing them in my hands, hoping I could determine if one was my American Girl doll.
I’d probably be better at doing makeup
I’d be more tan
I wouldn’t be scared of water
I would be able to recycle anywhere and everywhere
I would drink beer on the beach
I would wear colored sunglasses confidently
I would be myself confidently
I would wake up at 6am every morning for the moonset/sunrise
I would be a runner
I would know what a “california burrito” is
I would have been to the Ellen show already
I would think 45 degrees was cold
I would have helped defeat prop 8
I would have eaten at in-n-out burger
I would say “carl’s jr” instead of “hardees”
I would have been way cooler at prom
I’d be used to people dressing well
Oh my gosh, rant city: Today in class, I witnessed such ridiculous disrespect from my fellow students that I wanted to slap them. Finals are coming up next week, and for some reason, kids these days think that they deserve a study guide, that they are entitled to knowing precisely exactly what is going to be on every single test.
If it was me teaching, I would have told them all to shut up. I would have told them to take their groans elsewhere. Fortunately for them, our teacher might just be the most patient human being on earth. even so, she was probably near tears.
The thing is, she has every right to test on whatever in the curriculum she wants to test on. She can reasonably say, “know everything we have covered this semester,” and we would be responsible for just that. I am only 3 or 4 years older than most of the kids in this class but I cannot for the life of my imagine what in their heads makes them think it is okay to argue with the teacher about the material on the test. and you know what? It wasn’t even the young ones. Some of the older ones were just has whiny.
I have been in a holiday frenzy the past few days so this is my first time on here in a few days. We had a delicious Thanksgiving- no turkey and all! We decorated our “tree” last night and I wanted to let you all know what we decided to do for a tree since I have been thinking about it for over a month.
We took the cupcake stand that we made for our wedding and decorated it in greenery scraps and ornaments and lights. It looks like a real tree (only short) and we love it. I am happy to have found a way to recycle the cupcake stand and have a green tree.

and now...drumroll please.....

love it!!!!!!
So this is Thanksgiving week and I always get to feeling extra thankful around this time of year. I really love that tradition of everyone going around the table saying what they are thankful for, but my family doesn’t actually do that tradition so I am asking the Skirt!girls to join in this with me. I will say here what I am thankful for and then you guys do yours!!! I hope this works =0] It would make my Thanksgiving really happy if people actually did it with me.
I am thankful for:
my beautiful and wonderful family and hubs who believe in me and care about me and push me and have my best interests at heart
my Kenna dog being the greatest dog ever
Barack Obama being elected president
warm socks (seems odd after the last one, huh?)
federal loans that haven’t gone under
my counselor
so many wonderful veggies and fruits to eat- particularly, asparagus
my parents finally trying to go organic
my nephew talking about me when I’m not around
seasons
cheeseball
colors
life in all its forms
the Vince Guaraldi Trio
sister and brother in law for one of the greatest Christmas presents ever
