Feeling Good Friday

Aren't you glad it's Friday?

I am.

I've always loved simple things like it being Friday. It makes me really happy and I tend to dance around (alone in my house) and feel silly. I don't even care if I'm silly. The little things make life worth living and the best little thing I can think of is that we get a Friday once a week.

It's been an up and down week full of emotion, doubt, fear, mostly denial, but above all, it's been so good. Life is a funny thing. You think you've got it all figured out and then you get a curve ball.

I'm thankful for five things today. I call it my Friday Fiver.

1. A warm cozy home. We've had some stormy, rainy weather the past 24 hours. There is nothing like hearing your heater kick in, as you sit at your computer watching the rain pound to the ground outside. So glad to be inside.

2. The chance to reinvent yet again. I recently resigned from my full-time job. It was a three-year blip in my 15-year freelance career. I'm back to freelancing and feeling good. This time around I am thrilled to be able to choose yet again what I want to do. Do I want more writing clients or more editing clients? The choice is mine. I love it.

3. The support of family and friends. My wonderful husband is first off the best support system I could ask for. And my immediate family and friends communicate their love and support for me often. I don't need tons of friends, just a few precious ones.

4. The truth and freedom. After my decade in a Protestant Christianity cult, I cherish the truth that I know to be true. God loves me! It's a delicious freedom to know that there exists such a love that you can't ever lose. You're never out of reach of this love. It makes me brave.

5. Dreams. I have a lot of very big dreams. Most of them include island getaways with my hubby (smile), but most of all, just the fact that I can dream big is a huge blessing. They are finding that those who daydream and get lost in their thoughts may have a reduced risk of Alzheimer's. The daydreaming/imagination part of the brain needs constant exercise so that it won't get lazy and quit working.

So, for this Friday, dream, enjoy what you've got, and have a great weekend!

Thank you!

It was so nice to read an uplifting post after a very long week of curve balls and national insanity. You completely changed my outlook and made me smile. :) Thank you, and have a great weekend Trish!

REALLY? Daydreaming can help alzheimers???

REALLY? Daydreaming can help alzheimers???  (My mom suffers from this in a nursing home...) How about obsessing over life-dramas and stewing in anger and denial.. That is where I have been this week, but your blog was nice... and uplifting. Sorry I didn't read it til today (Sat)... could have used it on Friday!

Feeling Good Friday

Yes, it's true!

Susan, they did a study on a large number of nuns a few years ago (can't remember specifically which med journal did it) and those nuns who recited dull facts when asked about their birth were the ones with Alzheimer's and those who were creative and talked about the look of the clouds or a bird that their mother saw before she gave birth did not have it. They think that the disease actually starts at birth and it is up to us to keep every part of our brain strong. The part we dream with and use to think or escape with is the part that is taken over by stronger parts of the brain and results in Alzheimer's. I'm paraphrasing and doing it badly. I'm sorry to hear you're having a rough time. Last week was a tough week, for everyone I think, for me too, and I was struggling to find a way out of the bad place I was in. Thus the blog. Hope this week is better for you. Hugs!
