About Me
Kids: No kids
Political Leaning: Moderate
Name: Trish Lawrence
Occupation: Writer-blogger
Education: School of Life
Relationship Status: Married
More about Me: Completely blonde, born on Martha Stewart's birthday, so I'm already hamstrung by my Type A tendencies. I crave knowledge and frequently try to learn too much at once. I'm happily married, but can't figure out if I should be a mother. A seeker, but now moved by authenticity more than tradition. Survivor of a right-wing fundamentalist cult and determined to write about it in order to heal (and to help others heal).
Favorite Music: I listen to everything, from Jay-Z to Basshunter to Muse to Michael Buble to Plumb to Kelly Clarkson.
Favorite Books and Writers: Anything by Anne Lamott; Phil Rickman's Merrily Watkins mysteries (from the UK); my subscription to Creative Nonfiction edited by Lee Gutkind, Terri Jentz, Strange Side of Paradise, memoirs by Sy Montgomery, Diane Ackerman, and Brenda Peterson
I am most proud of: being CEO of my own small corporation, real/brilliant, inc. I blog for companies and non-profits so that they don't have to.
I am most guilty of: being an introvert. I tend to turn down a lot of social activities, because I prefer staying home. This blog is one way for me to open up and meet new people. Excuse me, I have to meet my hubby and friends for a drink!
The world would be a better place, if only: I would be real. I can't make anyone else be real, but if I am real, it's progress.
Words I live by: Trust in God, but tether your camel.--Unknown
Interests: Spiritual memoir stories, women and men pursuing their passions in spite of many obstacles, reading anything and everything, writing, improving writing and communication, social media, fashion, DIY, design, history, nature/ecology, comparative religious studies, grammar, English lit
Profession: Writer/blogger
Slogan: I’m a survivor of a right-wing fundamentalist sect (a cult) that delegated women to baby-making machines and obedient Stepford wives as seen on television each week on TLC. 18 Kids and Counting: The Jim Bob & Michelle Duggar Family are still part of the fundamentalist group that I left about six years ago. I write about how I kept my own faith intact in spite of the pressure, the dangers of fundamentalist religion to women, and how it’s time for survivors of patriarchal hierarchies to pursue our passion.
