My Fave: Working
By thatstheticketut, Tuesday, April 27, 2010, 1 commentsI know this is rare and some may consider this a little crazy, but I love work. I enjoy waking up, drinking a cup of coffee and working on projects. I have a unique job situation because I have two part-time jobs that make up a full-time job at the same place. Confused? Me too.
I work at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, which is where I also received my undergraduate degree. I work in
My major in college was journalism and electronic media and my minor was theatre. So I feel very privileged to be able to work in both. The juxtaposition of the two is very refreshing as well. At Media Relations, I get to dress nice, wear my heels and work in a professional, office environment. At the theatre, I throw on the paint clothes, work with power tools, and leave everyday covered in saw dust. I go through a lot of outfits, but it's nice to have the mid-day change of pace.
I think the best and worst thing about working is the time distribution. Usually I work between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m., with the exception a few nights for theatre events or a video shoot.
It's great because I have something to do for the bulk of my day. I feel like I am contributing something to society. Then, when I'm done with my work day, I have nothing to worry about: no homework, no studying, just relaxation. I'm in a position where I can leave my work at work.
The worst part is that when the work day is done, I have NOTHING to do. The free time is great…for a while. When I get home, I don't really do anything. Television isn't as fulfilling as it was when I was younger. A few of my old hobbies have been renewed though. For instance, I like crocheting. Despite the fact that my friends give me a hard time and often call me 'grandma,' crocheting gives me peace of mind. The difference is it used to take me about a year to make a blanket. Now it takes me only three months.
I wish I had something to pass the time after work too. I'll continue my quest for that.
Working is great though. Even with the unequal distribution of time, I enjoy that my days are filled with tasks and places to be so that I get the opportunity to come home and veg out.

It sounds like you have two exciting jobs!
I have crocheted some over the years, but I could never make anything that looked decent. Best wishes to you!
