Neither Rain, nor Snow, nor Sleet, what bologna

The US Postal Service wants to cut back on its delivery days. The Postal Service says it's in debt and wants to cut back mail delivery to 5 days a week. Give me a break! The Post Office already gets off a lot of Mondays throughout the year due to federal holidays. The Post Office does not deliver on any major holidays. We have to worry about getting Christmas gifts in the mail by December 15th or there is no guarantee it will be delivered by the 25th. This year they were threatening us to have gifts in the mail by December 10th to guarantee pre-Christmas delivery. I am not a big fan of privatization of government services. Privatizing army food services in Iraq has truly been horrible for the men and women having to serve there. There are times when they have no access to food. And I have heard that service is pretty awful on some bases. But it may be time to look into privatizing the mail delivery. I mailed a birthday card last Wednesday. I live in Austell and the card was going to Smyrna. It should have taken 2 days at the most to get it delivered. I got a text from my friend thanking me Monday for the card-- the day it arrived in her mailbox. I could have walked from my house to her house and hand delivered the card in less time than it took the post office to deliver it maybe 27 miles? Now the Post Office wants to cut back on another delivery day and wants to stop Saturday delivery. My vote is that if you have to stop delivery on any day of the week-- why not Monday? You are already off on so many for Federal Holidays-- maybe we won't miss delivery that much on a Monday. It is snowing in my neighborhood today. I can bet you there will not be any mail. I did not see a mail truck the last 3 times we got snow in Georgia. Okay, one time the snow fell on a Sunday. But the other two days were weekdays and I did not get mail for 2 days in a row the last time we got snow during the week. I am wondering if the mail will be delivered to me tomorrow. I am guessing it depends on how quickly the snow melts. I remember the US Postal Service used to take pride in delivering the mail through rain, snow, sleet and hail. The saying was nothing deterred the Postal Service from getting you your mail. Now I wonder daily if I will get mail on time or if my bills that I mail out will be delivered on time. What is happening in our country when you can no longer trust the US Postal Service?
