Thank You Kate Moses

I had the nicest surprise in my mailbox last Friday! I received a signed copy of the new book, "Cakewalk", by Kate Moses. Before blogging here at Skirt, I had a blog at Open Salon. A few months ago, the people at Salon held a bake sale for two of their co-workers and I bid on several of Kate's books. I was thrilled to learn I was the winning bidder for signed copies of "Mothers Who Think", "Because I Said So", and "Wintering" as well as Kate's homemade Fleur de Sel Millionaire Shortbread.
I received the books and have been reading them ever since. The shortbread was devoured within the week. I had posted a blog at Open Salon about my husband's reaction to the shortbread. He was in heaven as he said, "My God! Can you email her for this recipe? These are great!" He had never reacted to my cooking in that way. He had said "My God!" but it was just as he was spitting something I had baked into the sink.
I have thoroughly enjoyed Kate's books. Reading the collection of short stories in "Mother's Who Think" and "Because I Said So", actually make me feel like I'm not alone in my crazy, chaotic, life as a mom. Earlier on Friday, I was sitting in the pick-up line at school laughing hysterically as I read from "Mother's Who Think". "What are you laughing about, Mom?" My three year old asked as I tried to avoid the school principal standing outside my car window in the pouring rain. "This book, sweetie!" I told him as I rolled down my window. "Um, you're going to have to go into the school today. We're having inside dismissal because of the lightening and rain." "Okay, thanks." I told the drenched principal as I tried to inch my way a little closer to the building. I ran through the rain, three year old in tow, to get my nine year old.
As we drove home, I was still laughing at one of the short stories in that book. Little did I know how much those books would help keep me sane and that Kate's latest book was waiting in my mailbox. "Cakewalk" is her memoir mixed with recipes. A win for me and my husband. It's already had rave reviews and from what I've read so far, it's a nice mix of real life and recipes. What a nice surprise! Thank you, Kate!

Hi, I knew I heard that name
Hi, I knew I heard that name before..."Kate Moses" so I just googled her.
I read "Wintering" And Loved it. I am a -Plath Lover and Moses wrote this superbly, beautifully, flawlesly! Thanks for suggesting her other books.~K
Wintering is Beautiful
You're right! Any Plath Lover that hasn't read Wintering should do so. Kate Moses put her entire heart and soul into that one. Her memoir is proving to be just as soulful.
