When the Snow Comes In...
By skirtySteph, Tuesday, January 11, 2011, 6 comments...the sanity goes out.
I'm squirrely. My husband's squirrely.
It's been 2 days since it snowed and I am starting to reallllllllly understand "The Shining" for the first time.
He's actually out back playing drums in a frozen shed behind our house, just to get away. Away from the cabin fever. Away from the boredom. This is his second trip out there today and it's only a little past noon. He's wearing a hat, coat, 3 layers and gloves and banging on things.
I wish I could bang on things.
Ha.
It's really not THAT bad. I work from home anyway, so the last two days have been pretty normal for me. But the knowing I can't go out and get ANYTHING. NOTHING. NADA. ZILCH. is really starting to take its toll.
I took a cue from MBeebe and her blog on Insomnia on a Snowy Moonlit Alabama Night and decided to make my hubby go on a wintry moonlit stroll with our dog last night. Only we couldn't walk across our street because the pavement was one sheet of ice and we were slipping and sliding all over the place. So we stayed on our side of the street. Not as romantic as her night of playing in a field with her family and friends. But it WAS pretty out.
Here's me with our dog Annie Oakley. Yes, I am wearing a dorky hat and my pajamas.
This is how weird the snow was...it was like ice on top of snow and made these LOUD crunch noises and big breaks in like glass. My puppy no likey.

And finally, this is a weird jumper thingy my husband thinks is cool and that he likes to wear when it snows. No judgments please.
My next attempt at going outside will involve 2 tennis rackets on my boots (homemade snow shoes) and a 1/2 mile walk down to the Wal-Mart that's open. Just like the pioneers did!
Happy snow day southland. Hopefully the sun will melt some of this away and restore my sanity.

Too Funny!
Hey Steph,
I understand that slipping and sliding all over the place you were talking about. To be born and raised in NJ, you'd think I'd be happy to see this white stuff. NOT. That's why I moved in the first place. To get RID of this icy, cold, and fluffy white stuff!
Sadly, I'm here to admit that
Sadly, I'm here to admit that my husband wears one of those things too. And the Carhart overalls. Ew!
If if makes you feel any
If if makes you feel any better, the northeast is getting slammed tonight and tomorrow. On top if all the snow we have. But I like it becasue I work at home. and snow makes you slow down and the fools who don't end up in a snowbank. it is also a great equalizer - it impacts all of our lives. Cute hat on you, but the one oneses your wondefful husband is wearing - well, it would match Walter's and it casues me great shame! :-) stay warm!

you Southern belles crack me up. Come on woman, you lived in the Big Apple -- strap on those makeshift snowshoes and walk yourself to the nearest watering hole! (Oh wait....they close way before 4am there, right...? bummer...) It won't even reach us 'til after midnight but we great northeasteners are READY: milk-check. bathtub full of water-check. schools closed-check. wine-check. more wine-check.....It's like a Friday night here!
Bravo!
So glad you took a stroll through the snow even if Annie Oakley wasn't happy... haha. I love the tennis racket idea. Whatever it takes to get you there! Hope your area is clearing up. Ours has gone from slushy to muddy... uh. And freezing, again, this evening.
LOL
LOL! That was awesome! Your comment about your husband's "jumper thing" had me dying laughing. Stay warm and I hope you can get out soon!
Oh, and your doggie is KU-YOOT! ;)
