It's Tankini Time!
By skirtySteph, Tuesday, June 29, 2010, 7 commentsI've decided that the difference between the old me and the new me is that the new me wears a Tankini.
And not a hot, skimpy Tankini like the ones they show in the Victoria Secret catalogue.
But one that really covers. The kind that pregnant women wear. Only I'm not pregnant.

I'm just coming to a realization that maybe a bikini is no longer appropriate for me. How did this happen to me? Is this a right of passage? It's decided...this will be the beach trip where I no longer can be a bikini girl. I saw Ramona on The Real Housewives of New York wearing a bikini, and although she has the body for it I couldn't help but think...man, she needs to cover up a bit.
I went to the beach recently with two pregnant friends, two mom friends, myself and another married friend and 4 out of the 5 of us had a Tankini on. So at least I'm not alone.
For a different generation, I imagine it's like the moment my mom decided to wear a one piece.
Am I alone? What do you think about the "move to the Tankini"? Anyone else out there make this small, but important transition?

after your last post about trying to be a bit wilder I'm suprised you aren't headed the other direction!
Good point!
I AM afraid of being boring. But I think I'm more afraid of a belly roll.
I am that different generation
This year I bought my first one piece since my kids were little. So far it has been hanging forlornly in my closet. I'll let it see the light of day soon, once I gather up my courage. I keep telling myself I'll look dignified (meaning matronly).

There are a million people of all ages who don't have perfect bikini bodies, but they rock them anyway. I think you can wear whatever you want as long as you strut around with confidence!
you mean to tell me there are
you mean to tell me there are articles of clothing made specifically for the beach? I can't recall wearing any since elementary school!
But I do have to say, I agree with WineNotWhine, no matter what you wear it always looks better when you wear it with confidence!

Stephanie -- I vote thong and pasties for you 2010 beach look! ha!
You just gave me a great idea for a my own blog. Two years ago I wrote about needing a new swim suit -- and I'm just realizing I never got one. I've had the same suit for 15 years. I NEVER go to the pool or beach so it's been worn about 10 times. So I still consider it "new" but the style -- not so much.

Oh look! The photo embed took in the comments section. The last time I tried to do that it didn't work. The above pic is from a blog I wrote 2 years ago. Putting it in queue to write a summer 2010 updated.
