California native Zuri Star has been performing since she can remember. “I was singing and doing dance recitals by the age of three and started taking voice lessons when I was six. I’ve always known –from a very young age- that performing is all I’ve ever wanted to do. It’s not easy, and there have been times where I’ve been discouraged, but giving up has never really been an option.”

My pride and joy: are my family and businesses. I get personal satisfaction from knowing that I have made a positive impact on others’ lives.

Funniest thing ever: when my little Japanese Mother-in-Law, Kay, imitated the walk of a penguin after watching the movie, “The March of the Penguins.” If I had a better video clip of it I think it could have gone viral on YouTube.

I cannot live without: my laptop – I can’t imagine a day without the internet.

My work: I’ve been a franchise owner with Baby Boot Camp (formerly StrollerFit) for over five years. I teach fitness classes for pre- and post-natal moms, and we incorporate the children in strollers during the workout. I recently was asked to become the National Fitness Coordinator for Baby Boot Camp, and I currently produce weekly exercise videos, help promote brand awareness nationally and put together educational programming for franchise owners.

My work:   I never know how to respond when someone asks, “So, what do you do?” Usually I just say, “I’m a consultant”, or “I’m a building contractor” or even “I’m a shed designer” to distill the answer into a manageable byte. On any given day I could be making a presentation to City officials, designing a shed, crawling through a spider-infested attic, pounding nails, planning a building relocation, or inspecting a construction site.

My work: Freelance writing & photography is a real job, and that is exactly what I do. I get paid to take pictures of people, places and things and occasionally I write something about the things I take pictures of. There are of course some things I write about that I didn’t take a picture for, but no matter what I’m always writing and taking pictures!
