The Census is Here
By Shoegirl1970, Tuesday, March 16, 2010, 1 commentsFor some reason I don't remember the 2000 Census, as strange as that sounds. I'm sure we had one but 2000 was a pretty sad year for me so there's a chance I just don't remember.
This Census I am in a completely different place in my life. We've brought two new people into this world, and this country, to be counted. I told the children that this is the first time they will be counted. My eldest daughter who is nine, took an interest and wanted to look at the information that I filled out on her. My five year old, soon to be six year old, son didn't take as much of an interest.
I think it's so sad that people do not trust the Census and many don't even want to answer the questions. This is especially a problem among illegal immigrants. It's really sad because they don't understand that they need to be counted too. We need an accurate count of how many people are in this country, legal or not. I wish that I had more time on my hands so that I could volunteer to go into these communities around town to encourage people to answer... Since I don't have time to go door to door I am going to make it a point to bring it up in conversation with people I come across in my daily life.
I encourage all of you to not only answer your own Census (which I have no doubt you will) but encourage a stranger to do the same. Every little bit counts and we can all help make a difference.

I love this. Im always finding myself in situations where I want to do something big, but dont know where to start. I guess ideally im superwoman, but realistically im not quite. Every little bit helps. We just did an awareness campaign for the census in my college dorm- it wasnt super-well recieved, but hey we tried.
