Vikki Locke | On Her Own
By skirtySteph, Thursday, September 2, 2010, 2 commentsVikki Locke has been a name in Atlanta radio for over 20 years.
"I was with Steve [McCoy] longer than my husband," says the upbeat morning radio DJ with a chuckle. "He was like my radio hubby."
When B98.5 broke up the long time Atlanta duo this summer, Vikki found herself the only female radio DJ in Atlanta with her own show. Steve took a terrific job in Denver, on Central Time, so Vikki catches his show when hers is finished. "The other day he slipped and said 'The Steve & Vikki Show' on accident," she says. "I was dying laughing. But it's hard not to say it after 20 years together."
Vikki's day begins at 3 a.m. when she wakes up and checks the headlines of the day to get ready for her show. She's then on the air from 6 - 9 a.m. every weekday. The rest of the morning and afternoon is spent preparing and recording segments for the next day. "Some things are planned, and we're prepared for most anything, but a lot of it is improvised. That's what makes it fun."
Vikki can often be seen at charity and media events in the evening, begging the question, when does this powerhouse sleep? "I slept for a month when we had our hiatus between Star 94 and our debut on B98.5," says Vikki. "That was soooo nice."
She's showing our city that a woman can carry her own show and do it well—something that allows the rest of us women to sleep at night.

Great to have a woman-led morning radio show in Atlanta!
Isn't it about time we had a morning radio show led by a woman? I can't believe it's taken this long. Vikki was great with her on-air partner for all those years but she certainly can carry the show on her own. She has the experience, knowledge and skills plus she's totally involved in the Atlanta community. She knows what's going on and lends her voice to help charities--too many to name! Vikki is a great reflection of Atlanta's community of strong women in business and philanthrophy!
I know! Vikki is the best.
