Lynn Young | Genuine Guardian
By margaret, Saturday, October 1, 2011From a young age, Lynn was taught that volunteering was paramount. Today she carries on her mother’s prescient words: “the highest level of living is giving.” It’s by that token that Lynn came to form Lowcountry Orphan Relief. Lynn’s insight into the plight of abused and abandoned children comes from years as a guardian ad litem, a representative for children once they’re in the court system. In 2003 she formed LOR to provide clothing, toiletries, books, school supplies and stuffed animals for these children as they navigate life after being taken out of their homes. “I have always heard that you can judge a society by the way it treats its children and its elderly. One of the greatest challenges for me is the lasting emotion that is tied to both this job and being a guardian.” To donate time, money, clothing or supplies, go to lowcountryorphanrelief.org.
