Kendrick Christian
By Eyelash Artist, Wednesday, March 17, 2010With tweezers, glue, and synthetic eyelashes, Kendrick’s built a thriving business and earned a devoted clientele. “Eyelash extensions hit California via Korea six years ago, but they’re still relatively unknown,” she says of her signature service at Pandora’s Lashes, her tiny Carytown salon. One-by-one, she glues lash-extensions along clients’ natural lashes, creating a better-than-mascara look. “You get individually-defined lashes that curl perfectly at the ends.” Clients start with a full set—100 to 200 lashes applied over 90 minutes—then return for touch-ups every two-to-three weeks. “My clients don’t like wearing makeup, but they want to look finished. I see nurses, stay-at-home moms, athletes. It’s the high-maintenance service for the low-maintenance woman.” Popular looks range from The Angelia, “a half-set applied to the outer lid for a cat-eye look,” to full-on glitter-glam lashes, with prices ranging from $100 to $300. A trained esthetician, Kendrick loves her job’s wow-factor: “Skincare’s a process, but with lashes you see results instantly.”
