Considered the most consistent player in the history of pool, Allison is coolly confident—not the arrogant sportsman you might expect of a pro who has earned more tour wins and titles than any other sports star (including Tiger Woods), has been ranked No. 1 in the U.S. for more than 10 years, and was inducted into the Billiards Hall of Fame last year. Two things drive her: a competitive spirit and a true love of the game. “It’s a very beautiful sport to watch if you know what to look for,” Allison says. The British transplant moved to Charlotte to learn (and master) American pool after a professional snooker career in which she’d earned every title there was to win. Now, although she’s reached the ultimate professional perch, Allison continues to compete because she loves it; but she balances her tournaments with appearances, exhibitions, and teaching her sport to others. “I still love to play,” she says.
