viewsOh "frick'n" Christmas tree...

I'm allergic to real Christmas trees. It's painfully true. In high school I spent 3 consecutive Christmas celebrations bound up in my room ironically enough, with a mini Christmas tree. Perhaps my mother was trying to off me. It was a valiant attempt. We didn't figure out the root cause of my illness until a million anti-biotics (to no avail), emergency room visits, a few sinus infections and rumors of mono. A Dr. friend of our family, an allergist said, "Have you tested Shea for allergies?" Sure enough the 30 pricks up each arm were fully enflamed. It looked like a bee and mosquito attempted to mate on my arm. He said, "She is allergic to everything, especially trees."
Fast forward to present day. My roommates, "bless their hearts" decided to get a real Christmas tree. I warned them of my weakness and assured them that the 7' fake tree in my tuperwear box would look just as real. I admit, there is nothing nostalgic about going to the garage, pulling out the tree limb by limb and piecing it together like a mannequin. There is also nothing glamourous about allergy eyes, nasal noises and headaches.
The root cause of my anger:: I'm reminded that I have limits. I'm not an all inclusive resort of magical fun. I'm more like a cell phone plan. And living in community I want to be the all inclusive resort. Cell phone plans look good on paper, they seem pretty straight forward until you attempt to make an international call at 2 pm on Tuesday. All inclusive resorts make you believe that your worries will be distant memories when you immerse yourself in the simplicity. I'm not simple. I have limits and in reality, I don't want to believe either of those things.

But they still got the REAL
But they still got the REAL tree? Geez, I'm sorry honey! Hope you're feeling okay, and have a Merry Christmas anyways. And you don't have "limits," you're just special. :)
I could never take that needle test... yikes...
Allergic to Christmas trees? Wow... that would be TOUGH. (Although my Christmas spirit has come kinda slow this year, so it could be tempting to use that excuse... hmm... yeah... an allergy... that could WORK! Could I also be allergic to decorations?) :-) "Trust Life's unfolding..."
I have limits
I love the line...."I'm not simple. I have limits, and in reality, I don't want to believe either of those things." Comparing your life to a cell phone vs. an all inclusive resort really brought the last line home. Shea, keep writing and making us smile. (<:
