Magic Carpet Prayers
By shea.p, Thursday, January 14, 2010, 3 commentsI have been free falling for 5 months now since leaving my life in Traverse City, MI and moving to Winston-Salem to live in community with 5 (now 6) other friends. I have said to some that I am, "walking in the dark." Brennen Manning (author of The Ragamuffin Gospel) quotes his grandmother in saying, "To live without risk is to risk not living" - all these challenges require a willingness to risk a journey into the unknown and a readiness to trust God even in the darkness. Helen Keller says that life is a daring adventure or nothing at all. Risk for the sake of risk is narcissistic. However, as again Brennen Manning writes, "But when the appropriate time comes, only the disciple with an unflinching trust in God will dare to risk. And risk is not naive; it knows that the possibility of making a mistake and getting hurt is very real."
This journey has not been void of migraines, arguments, days in bed & tears of defeat. My roommate Julia and I usually end up on the "magic carpet" in our bathroom offering prayers to Heaven where for a while I was convinced that God had indeed shut off his miracle ear. Funny, but not really.
