Noisy Homes - Sweet Homes
By SFC Gillespie, Tuesday, July 1, 2008This morning I didn’t have time to get side-tracked. I barely had time to review all the usual press haunts. I blame it on the bad energy I created by not sleeping much last night.
I live in a high rise apartment building that is a huge contrast from my home in Alabama. It’s noisy in the area just considering the amount of traffic and the amount of people housed on top of each other. However, last night my fellow tenants excelled in noise making.
It seems that at the end of each month, the trash area gets trashier and the noise level increases due to people moving in and out…out mostly. Last night the inconsiderate yahoos had to clang and bang far into the night while yelling at one another and honking the moving-truck horn. Lucky me, I’m right above the loading dock.
The craziness ebbed and flowed. I believe the ebbs came as people complained to security and security visited the racket makers. I fantasized about the next time it happens. Near the end of the month, I’m going to buy some cheap eggs and provide an instant egg shampoo for these noise hoodlums.
If this wasn’t enough, helicopters kept flying around the area. In a half awake/half asleep dream I had, my friends accused me of causing the machines to fly too close to the apartment building. They kept telling me that they are flying close because I’m in the Army.
Of course, as I listened to the morning news on the radio, I was cranky and one of my pet peeves surfaced. The interviewer said, “Thank you for your time,” at the end of the interview and the interviewee said, “Sure,” in a deadpan way. What ever happened to “Your Welcome” as a response to “Thank you”? Even a “Thank you” in response makes sense to me. Heck some people just grunt when they are thanked. What’s that all about? –
After a flurry of work this morning, during lunch I surfed off to Milblogging.com to find a blog I could get angry at for no reason. Instead I found a blog that continues to tear at my heart. It’s written by an Army Wife, okiesisi, who titled her blog, Bombs, Bandaids and BS. She proves my theory that the folks back home have it as rough as the Warfighters, and tougher when the Warfighters come home injured. God bless the loved ones back home and their dedication.
One of the advantages of working in a communications office for Health Affairs is getting visibility on some of the developments in research that will hopefully result in a full return to health. The one I’m most amazed at is something called “Regenerative Medicine.” This translates to growing back organs and limbs using patients own stem cells. This science is in full swing now and I hope positive results are quick in coming forth.
As much as I love writing this blog, I have to get back to my real job now.
