Fall Fashion 2010

As of Sept. 21, the calendar declared the arrival of fall. While outside the temperature still rages around 90 degrees, time marches on within the world of merchandise. That’s why Halloween displays sprung up two weeks ago and why I'm way overdue to talk about fashion. There’s something about fall that just necessitates hanging up the skimpy, bright colored ensembles and breaking out your classic favorites. It’s also a good time to see what trends are worth adding to your closet.

Vogue declared fall 2010 “the season of the skirt”, which I couldn’t be happier about. Skirts are much more forgiving to real womens' silhouettes than jeans. Vogue predicted the fashion weather, and apparently, “the forecast is lady like”. This makes sense being the season’s big trend is “fifties flare”. The fifties scream a time of classic elegance and stay-at-home moms; however, 2010 will no doubt have a slightly different take on the decade of yesteryear. Either way ladies, it sounds like the time has come to cover your bosoms and elongate that hemline.

LOVABLE LOOKS
·         Tailored blazers: These aren’t just for men anymore. What I love is the versatility of this piece. You can pair it with jeans for a night out, or use it to suit up for work. Either way, you’ll be blazing fashion trails and looking good doing it.
·         Layers of textures and patterns: Autumn isn’t all tans, beiges and browns (Oh my!). Stand out this season by letting go of that not matching fear. Think of it as taking a worthy risk, and a great example, though a tad pricy, is the Peter Pilotto wool-tweed and leather skirt.
·         Structured trenches: This is a classic piece that you probably already have in your closet. If not, save some cash and check out your local thrift store. Chances are they have a few for way, way less than the stores. A trip to the dry cleaner will have it like new.
·         Lace up boots: Just do it. These are amazing, and they’re everywhere to boot (sorry).
TIRED OUT
·         Tights: I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I feel very over these. Last season, I wore tights so much that even my boyfriend noticed. I’m not saying to abandon the style, but try and do something different than last year. Steer away from the tight-sweater dress-cinched waist-boot combo. Try to use the tights with layers of textures and patterns to jazz it up.
·         Animal prints: This is a personal opinion. It’s still in all the top magazines, but no matter what accessory it’s on, it just always looks cheap.
·         Skinny jeans: They reemerged three years ago. The biggest problem? Many girls simply don’t know how to wear the look correctly. This is definitely not an item you want to vainly squeeze in a size smaller; please stop.
DROOL-WORTHY SHOES
·         Louis Vuitton fox fur sandal: Well, let’s just say my PETA card is revoked, and I’m okay with it. These are the same shoes pictured with this post. So delicious that I thought you needed a second (and third) look.
·         Yves Saint Laurent suede pump with fur trim: Va-va-voom expresses all I feel when I look upon these pumpalicious beauties.
·         Bally leather cut-out boots: Seeing these serves as a reminder that shoes are truly art in motion, if you can afford them that is. For me, there art on a shelf in the store.

A WARNING
·         Cardigans: They are everywhere this season, which undoubtedly fits into that “fifty’s flare”. Watch how you wear this because it can go from stylish and tasteful to matronly and teacheresque (circa 1994).
