I'm a student at Converse College, born and raised in South Carolina. I'm loving the Greenville area and hopeing to stay around for awhile after college. I'm majoring in Creative and Professional Writing and minoring in History and Marketing. I love it! If I won the lottery I would so be a professional student. Hopeing for a job in PR and eventually magazine editing. I love to read, travel, swim, scrapbook, and eat chocolate.

Dilemma

This weekend I had a few extra days off so I went to my parents house to take care of some wedding planning business. The weekend went okay and then Monday night rolled around.

My younger sister and I got into an arguement in the bathroom. I was packing up my tolietries and she comes in and DEMANDS that I get out of her bathroom. (We've always shared a bathroom and there is another bathroom down the hall.). I tell her she can have it after I finish. She procedes to scream and yell at me. My dad starts to yell at me from the living room about being a selfish brat.

I leave the bathroom and walk into the living room. My dad continues to yell at me, calling me a baby, selfish, selfcentered. He then says something like "Why'd you even pay to get your eyebrows done today if you were going to fuck them up yourself?" I hadn't touched my eyebrows since the lady did them at the nail salon. I asked him why he had to get involved with the arguement my sister and I were having and then told him to not yell at me like a child.. He said something similar to "This is my house. I control what happens in this house. Don't you think you can tell me what the hell to do."

Wedding Planning: Another Venue Option

My college has an Alumnae House that they offer for rent. I'd only been inside when it was decorated as a haunted house so it never occured to me to consider it for a wedding reception. But someone suggested it so the roomie and I went and checked it out. Its small, but big enough for a cocktail style reception. The layout is nice. There is one big room that you enter into (dance floor) and four main smaller rooms (food room, band/dj room, bar room, table room) that lead off it, a kitchen in the back and two bathrooms. There is an upstairs area, but I don't think we'd need to use it. The entire place could use a good coat of paint, but with it being dark and decorated, I don't think it would be noticeable.

The Great Dress Debate

Yesterday the ladies and I went to the Davenport and David's Bridal

The Davenport was lovely, lovely, lovely. I'm just worried that it would be too small if we decided to do a sit down style dinner with 150 people. (Note: we have no firm guest list number for me to consider because my family is refusing to talk numbers with me until the end of the month. Strange huh?) But is very pretty, hard woods with a small upstairs area perfect for a band. And at Christmas time it comes with a Christmas tree and white lights on the banister. It was a tad pricey, but I think it would be workable. Oh and it came with the option of rentingthe above apartment by hour, which might be a good idea since I'm having a few children who might need to go nap the last two hours of the reception. Oh, and they'd let me do sparklers which is what I'm considering in place of rose petals etc, as it will be dark when Mr. Groom and I leave the reception.

Lots of Wedding "Planning"

Today two of my friends and I went to two different reception venues and to a local dress shop.

The first reception place was a complete disaster-I wasn't sure how they stay in business. The woman was a fruit loop, the house was a mess, and she didn't want to give me any sort of prices. I could not wait to get out of the place. I was really dissapointed, because the place was the closest place I'd found to the ceremony location so I had high hopes.

After our appointment with the venue from hell, we went to a dress shop. The lady who helped me was so sweet and offered several alternative venues that I'd never thought of. She picked out a lot of gorgeous dresses and I fell in love with the first one she picked out, although it wasn't the first one I opted to try on. And it didnt have any red on the dress which I went into thinking I really wanted.

Come on People. Its 2009.

Apparently news of engagement has stirred up some, shall we say, tension in my family. My fiance has never met my dad (my dad turned down all invitations to meet him). From that you can infer that he didn't ask my dad permission to marry me. And that apparently was a very very bad thing to do.

PERMISSION? Are you fucking kidding me? I haven't asked permission to do things in years. Why would I start now? If anything I thought they would excpect NOT to be asked.

And I guess it'll come as an even bigger shock that I don't want my dad to "give me away". You heard me I plan to walk down the aisle solo. Why? Because I am choosing of my own free will to become a team with my fiance. No one is giving me away. No one even has the power to do so. I am not a child or a cow. And if I decided to give that power to someone it would probably go to one of my best friends. I don't give a flying flick about tradition. Especially when that tradition makes women subordinate.

What are your thoughts on this "ask daddy" deal?

I am most proud of: being published in an anthology when I was in Elementary school, the fact that I made all A's this semester!

Favorite Books and Writers: Oh boy. My favorite but also the hardest section. Anything by Madeline L'Engle or James Patterson. Lord of the Rings, Gone with the Wind, The Hobbit, Twilight Series. The Historian, The Sword of Truth Series, Sherlock Homes detective stories. On the search for new reads. Let me know what's worth a shot.

Favorite Music: Country and Southern Rock (Lynard Skynard, Taylor Swift, Brooks and Dunn, Kid Rock, Alan Jackson, Gary Allan, Rascal Flatts, Alabama, Lonestar etc) and a few random pieces here and there. (Eagles, Shinedown, Hinder, Corey Smith, OAR, Matt Nathaninson)
