Dancing With The Stars...
By Purple Promises..., Tuesday, October 20, 2009, 5 commentsI take ballroom dance lessons in Hermosa Beach from Jonathon Roberts and Anna Trebunskaya. They are both Pros from the show Dancing With The Stars.
Since the season started they have been drawing two names out of a glass vase as winners of two tickets to see the show filmed live. I was hoping to win a pair as I love the show and dancing.
Last Thursday when I was going through morning emails at work, I saw one without a subject line. Quite often I might just delete that type assuming its junk mail. Something compelled me to click it open for a quick peek. Much to my surprise, though there was not a subject line, it was far from junk mail. My name had been selected from the vase and I was now the recipient of two coveted tickets to DWTS.
I promptly called my childhood best friend, as she had told me if I ever got tickets she would fly down from Oregon to go with me. I called her on Friday morning and she booked her ticket by Friday night. "WE" were going to DWTS on Tuesday October 20th.
She flew in to LAX on Sunday night and called me at work Monday morning to firm up our plans. Imagine my surprise when I re-opened the email to read it to her on the telephone and saw that my tickets were for Tuesday the "27th" of October NOT the "20th. Needless to say I was speachless and got off the phone without telling her what I had just discovered.
I was literally dizzy, the room was spinning around me and I thought I was about to faint. Tears started slowly running down my cheeks as I sat at my desk wondering how I could have made a mistake like this and praying none of my clients would walk in and see me in that condition. When I got beyond that and a pile of tissues was developing on my desk, I pondered how I was going to break it to her.
My boyfriend offered to pay for her plane ticket to return the following week, which made me cry even more. He is so sweet...
I called the dance studio which is closed on Mondays, left a lengthy message and sent an email about my problem. My hope was they could switch me to Tuesday the 20th, though very short notice. I typed a note and drove to the dance studio to leave it on the door. Then I just had to have faith it woud all work out.
Imagine my surprise when I pulled up and saw Anna getting out of her car. I left my note in my car and walked to the door of the studio. As I pulled it open, there stood Jonathon who quickly noticed there was something wrong with me. I started talking a mile a minute...in broken bits and pieces...I messed up the dates...my friend flew down from Oregon...I can't bare to break her heart...blah...blah...blah..boo...hoo...hoo.
He took my hand and said Carol, I'll fix this. Give me your phone number and email. Its a big show on Tuesday, I'll take care of this. I thanked him and walked out the door.
By the time I drove home...5 minutes max, my cell was ringing, It came up You Can Dance Studio...I said "Hello", he said "Carol its Jonathon, its all taken care of, you'll get an email from the ticket cordinator and your name is on the list for Tuesday the 20th. You will have fun, there is a Michael Jackson tribute dance and the guest singer is Nora Jones". I responded with "Thank you, you are a dream". I could not believe I was also going to hear Nora Jones sing...icing on the cake...she is a favorite of mine!!
The email from DWTS was waiting when I returned to work. It was signed Debbie Clark. My friends first name is "Debbie"my last name is "Clark". What are the chances of that, like a zillion to one for crying out loud!!!
There is a natural order to life, with what appears to be random events. There is really nothing random about life at all. Everything is always in place. We have to get out of the way and let it find us sometimes. That which we are seeking is seeking us too.
Today, the dizziness is long gone and I am dancing on cloud nine.
I love, best friends, dance instructors, and securing tickets for the right day to see Dancing With The Stars!!

Carol, my favorite saying
Carol, my favorite saying for awhile now has been "Trust Life's unfolding..." That is exactly what you did and it worked out perfectly! What an incredible experience and how positively divine for you, a dancer. I think it's so cool that your friend flew in for the special occasion. And Norah Jones - BLISS! I'm a big fan. So glad your night turned out so wonderfully. Tell Jonathan he is now the hero of many, many women around the world. :) P.S. I keep meaning to mention: Your eyes are stunning!
Trust Life's unfloding...I do indeed :-)
when we let go..things come to us

From another DWTS fan
Carol- How cool is iy that you take lessons from Anna and Johnathan!
I was looking up where you live because Ii was intrigued by your hearing a fog horn..., and came across this post. I am a big DWTS fan, and will have to post my own story about it- not as good as yours, but you will find it interesting. It got me a front stage seat at their tour, at a little round table. The girls were great, but I almost had a heart attack over Derek! Cougar ! Rrr-ooww! My husband and I hope to take dance lessons as well, maybe in November. I feel like I met a soul mate on here stumbling on your post this morning. Writing is healing for the writer and the person who reads it. Take care!
