'Jeans envy'
By The Prozac Queen, Monday, January 3, 2011I envy men.
No, I don't envy them their body hair, although it would be nice for it to be as acceptable for me to have hairy legs as it would be for my husband. I don't envy them their pattern baldness, their tendency to sweat more and having to shave their faces. I don't have penis envy-what the hell does that even mean, anyway? I don't have a clue. What I have is much more serious than that.
I have jeans envy.
That's right, jeans envy. I envy the way men can find a good pair of jeans much easier than women can. My husband and I were in Kohl's the day after Christmas shopping for new jeans, along with pretty much everyone else and their mom. He picked out pairs of jeans simply by looking for his inseam and waist size, and he was done. I, on the other hand, had to look for the right waist size, the right fit on the thighs and calves, and the right butt size. I'm short, so I had to go to the petite section (which is the reason I have to go to Kohl's to find jeans rather than pretty much everywhere else like men can). Even the 'short length' ones you find in the 'regular' section are too long for me, and I'm 5'2". Even then, I had to choose the right leg length and cut...and of course I couldn't find one pair that has all of these things! Needless to say, it took me twice as long to find one pair of jeans than it took my husband to find several. I actually had to try them on, something completely foreign to him. I ended up grabbing grabbing a pair and having to take it back to the store because I needed a smaller size, which I didn't mind. :) But the point is that I have to go to certain stores, find the right section in the store, pick out a few pairs of jeans and try every one of them on...making several trips to the fitting room because you can only take a certain number of items in at a time. My husband can go into pretty much any clothes store and pay half as much in half as much time. I'm jealous.
I'll shut up now, because I think envy is one of the Seven Deadly Sins and I've already broken three of them. I'll leave to you to think of which ones. :)
