15 Books I'll Never Forget
By The Prozac Queen, Friday, March 18, 2011, 4 commentsReading this post http://skirt.com/clmannes/blog/jodi-picoult-and-why-im-loathsome-towards-her inspired me to write one of my own...or, repeat one I wrote on Facebook a long time ago about books. I know, I know, that doesn't really *count* as writing a blog, but here it is anyway, with a few updates. I thought it wouid be fun to see what books other Skirt! ladies had read and what they thought about them.
Basically I was asked to make a list of fifteen books I've read that I will never forget. It was really hard for me to narrow it all down to just 15, but I had to make at least *some* attempt to sound cerebral...after all, the person who sent this to me is studying philosophy and literally has a whole apartment full of books. So he says, anyway. Here are mine, in no particular order:
1. To Kill A Mockingbird-Harper Lee
2. Lies My Teacher Told Me-James W. Loewen
3. When God Doesn't Make Sense-James Dobson
4. The Bible-various books and authors
5. The Shack-William P. Young
6. Cat on a Hot Tin Roof-Tennessee Williams
7. A Time To Kill-John Grisham
8. The Screwtape Letters-C.S. Lewis
9. Animal Farm-George Orwell
10. The Red Tent-Anita Diamant
11. A Streetcar Named Desire-Tennessee Williams
12. A Day Late and a Dollar Short-Terry McMillian
13. The Unauthorized Guide to Choosing a Church- Carmen Renee Berry
14. Pygmalion-George Bernard Shaw
15. Cyrano de Bergerac-Edmond Rostand
I know this list sounds totally schizophrenic, but then I never said it would make any sense. I'll also point out that I never said I liked them all...in fact, some parts of the Bible are pretty unsettling. I'm not sure if that's more because of what is actually *there* or how I've heard it interpreted and used...but that's another post altogether, for another blog. What are some books you'll never forget?

Awesome List
My dogs are totally going to be named after Scout and Atticus in To Kill a Mockingbird. I just did reviews of the last 20 books I read on my blog http://cassiemannes.wordpress.com/2011/03/09/there-is-no-friend-as-loyal-as-a-book-%E2%80%94-ernest-hemingway/ and a few of them were definitely in my top favorites.
My favorite books have to be How to Kill a Rockstar and God-Shaped Hole (Tiffanie DeBartalo), Paint it Black (Janet Fitch), The Bride Stripped Bare (Nikki Gemmell), Girl Trouble (Holly Goddard Jones) and The Thirteenth Tale (Diane Setterfield).
Thanks for the shout out! So glad it gave you the memory of this list to share!!
I love it!
Now you've inspired me to do mine too.
