Good morning! I’m writing this early on a Monday in between packing, cleaning, washing, and corralling cats. Yes, it’s finally that time… I’m preparing for the 500 mile drive from Atlanta to Baton Rouge so I can start my (semi)Summer Sabbatical.
I’ve been saving up $$$ so I could take a little time off and work on some personal pursuits. Basically, I have three ongoing clients that I’ll continue to work with this summer (thus the “semi” part) but I’ve been turning down new clients.
The hardest new gig to let go of was redesigning the website for Ann Roth Shoes. I covet every piece in her collection and it was tough to turn away work that involved amazing designer shoes, but I was strong and said, “No. ”
Why? you may ask… Why? would you turn down a project that involved peep toe pumps and damask wedges?!
Because it’s time I gave myself a little attention.
At the beginning of the year I didn’t make New Year’s resolutions or 2010 goals. Instead, I’ve now made a lengthy summer “to-do” list.
A couple of weeks ago I thought about what I wanted to accomplish by the end of August. Here is what I jotted down (additional commentary that is not actually on the “real” list is in parenthesis):
START WALKING (A friend wanted me to go to yoga with her last week and my email response was, “Not up for exercise yet. I’m gonna start when I get to BR. So I have one more week of slothness to enjoy. Don’t spoil it for me.”)
LISTEN TO PODCASTS WHILE WALKING (This is just a reminder to myself to make the best use of every second of my time. So double duty here – I’ll hopefully learn something while I’m exercising.)
KITTYBOY.COM (This is my business website. It’s been the same design for 6 years. [Shameful.] It’s getting a full redesign – which is already in progress.)
SOCKHOLM.COM (This is the website for the feature film I wrote and produced. It’s getting a full reinvention. More details on this in a later blog.)
LOAD SOCK PUPPET VIDEOS ON YOUTUBE (This relates to the above bullet. I’ve had a channel on YouTube for years, but never loaded any videos.)
CAFÉ PRESS (Okay, I know Café Press is lame, but I want to do some merchandising for my above mentioned movie, so I need to look into different options. [Does anyone have an advice on this?])
I apologize if this blog was terribly boring to read. I just wanted to document what I was up to here to keep me honest. At the end of the summer I’ll write a follow-up to see how I did.
Okay, gotta run. Time to stuff the cats in their carriers and hit the road.

Photo taken last summer of the front entrance to my house in Baton Rouge. Doesn't this look like the perfect place to get some things accomplished?
