viewsseven days (and nights) in new york
By prettypea, Monday, August 23, 2010With seven days left in the summer and the last month being so full of experience and not full of writing I figured it was time for me to get back into the swing of things and work on challenging myself to do something of worth.
So I bought a moleskin and decided that in seven days, I would work to fill it. The moleskin has become the ultimate tool of the brooding writer, so it was fitting that it was my medium.
The rules were simple.
1) It would go with me wherever I went (dancing included)
2) The words could be mine or of someone I knew
3) Pictures were allowed, but pages could not be wasted full of oversized letters just to fill it
4) Thoughts and ramblings were welcome
5) Lists were encouraged
6) Some pages could be filled with snapshots of life in the week
7) Coffee stains would only be considered legitimate uses of pages if they somehow became art
8) Transcriptions of meaningful conversations were permitted
9) Words that captured glances and soft exchanges on the subway were allowed to have their own pages
10) No pages could be torn out
I don’t know how it will go, but I feel as though a week’s love affair with New York was the perfect moment to work on capturing all the brimming creativity the summer has had to offer. And if anything else, give me a chance to interact with people I wouldn’t normally interact with.
So here I go.
