Thank you, Spring

"April prepares her green traffic light and the world thinks Go!"  -Christopher Morley

So cliche, I know, to be glad that winter has shed her skin and that spring has finally come to play.  I have never been one to let the seasons affect my emotions but this winter was particularly depressing.  There was about a 2 week period in January where I came home every day, threw on my pj's, camped out on the couch, and either A.) cried myself to sleep or B.) fell asleep with a glass of merlot in my hand.

I'm not sure what it was that had me down but I tried everything you can think of to pick up my spirits.

I even went so far as to change the colors in my toe polish because I read somewhere that bright colors will make you feel "happy" - and I can assure you that all I felt was silly and frustrated.

I read somewhere that it's an actual condition called "Seasonal Affective Disorder".  I'm not sure how I feel about defining my emotions this way...but it was definitely something.  With the winter season behind me, I can't help but be excited about warm sunshine on my shoulders and a more upbeat, positive perspective.

As a matter of fact, in a few weeks, I'm getting on plane. I have never been on a plane in my entire life! This is a big deal for me and I've decided that if I make it back home (you know, if the plane doesn't hit a flock of birds and crash or, something) that I'm going to make some changes.

  1. Spend less time writing on facebook walls and more time with actual people.
  2. Exercise outside more.
  3. Worry about money less by budgeting and cutting coupons (I'm always down for hunting a good bargain.)
  4. Be more kind to myself...especially about judging my body.
  5. and last but not least, forgetting. I'm very good about the "forgiving" part but, I'm starting to learn that you never really let go until you LET GO.

My favorite part about spring? Song birds and red tulips. Maybe I could plant some of those too. :)
