About Me
Kids: No kids
Political Leaning: Other
Name: Alexis E. Barton
Occupation: Writer
Education: Too much!
Relationship Status: Committed Relationship
More about Me: Once upon a time, a little girl from Brewton, AL wanted to be a real-life writer, just like Beverly Cleary or Judy Blume...it took a while, but after slaying the fire-breathing dragon named Fear, vanquishing the evil troll named Procrastination and beating back her dastardly doppelganger Doubt, this stylish princess took off as fast as her stilettos could carry her. Armed with an ink pen, her words and her wit, she lived....well, you know the rest....
Favorite Music: Anything by Maxwell, Maze f. Frankie Beverly, Nina Simone, Prince, or Beyonce. Old school Michael Jackson. 80s R&B by Anita Baker, Patti LaBelle, and Luther Vandross.
Favorite Books and Writers: The Feast of All Saints/Anne Rice, Gone with the Wind/Margaret Mitchell, Madame Bovary/Gustave Flaubert, The Help/Kathryn Stockett, Every Goodbye Ain't Gone/Itabari Njeri
I can't live without: virgin strawberry daiquiris, MAC lip glass, my iPhone, a good ink pen, handkerchiefs, spell check, Turner Classic Movies, my mother's cooking, laughter, bubble baths, online shopping, fresh flowers, Alabama football, skirt.com.
I am most proud of: completing my education at the University of Alabama, becoming a writer (not just someone who THOUGHT about writing but wasn't doing it, which I was for a long time), and giving up chemical relaxers.
I am most guilty of: texting while driving (sorry! I'm trying to reform myself), dwelling on or over-analyzing the past, talking back to the tv, lurking on (okay, stalking) other people's Facebook pages, looking too long before I actually leap, relying too much on wikipedia.com for information, and being brutally honest.
Words I live by: "The untold want, by life and land ne'er granted; Now Voyager, sail thou forth to seek and find." - Walt Whitman
"And he said: you pretty full of yourself ain't chu. So she replied: show me someone not full of Herself and I'll show you a hungry person." - Nikki Giovanni
"Your silence will not protect you." - Audre Lorde
The world would be a better place, if only: I don't like "if only" statements....if ifs and buts were candy and nuts, we'd all have a merry Christmas. I think we have to work hard every day to change the things we can and pray about the things we can't. And keep it moving.

About Me: Somehow, Alexis E. Barton always knew her SAT-worthy vocabulary and wacky turns as an artist's model, pageant runner-up, freelance etiquette coach and event planner would pay off. She's an award-winning writer living in the Deep South who rides the Crimson Tide and believes in high heels, a good pot of gumbo, and six degrees of separation. In fact, whoever comprises her six degrees to TJ Holmes or James Blake, feel free to respond. Alexis is a tireless advocate for survivors of sexual assault. When she isn't blogging, she can be found watching TCM or Bravo, browsing local antique stores or running charity 5Ks. Alexis is currently writing her first novel, a collection of short stories. Her musings on the good, the bad and the truly foolywang may also be found at http://samechicdifferentday.com.
