About Me

More about Me: PQ Hudson- I have a bachelors degree from Mississippi University for Women in Journalism with an emphasis in Television Broadcasting. I worked for WCBI TV in my hometown of Columbus, Mississippi from 2002-2006 where I started out as an intern and then worked my way up the ranks through the production and news departments. Eventually I was awarded my dream position as a News Reporter. April O'Neil eat your heart out! The beginning of 2006 I relocated to the media freakshow that is Memphis,Tennessee and began working for WREG TV.   Working in local television is an exciting experience that is different every day and involves speaking in a language most can't interpret.  It has also introduced me to a motley crew of intelligent, liberal, quick witted, smartass and loyal people over the years that I now call my best friends. However, my true passion lies in less formulaic writing than the who, what, when, where and whys that writing and reporting the local news restricts me to. I'm a freelance writer for publications all over the South including Skirt Magazine and Skirt.com!  I've spent the last 3 years writing a collection of prose in my spare time that is full of what my literary idol, Hunter S. Thompson, would refer to as "creative non-fiction."  I'll write the next great American novel when I've got more time and energy but my first book makes for a fairly decent bathroom read and when it's published I will promote it shamelessly via Skirt Magazine and Skirt.com. Please buy it; Writers are struggling artists too.   I smile pretty much 24-7 & I love to laugh. Literature, music, photography, traveling, helping with animal causes and quoting the movie "Billy Madison" make my world go round. I am very involved with Belly Rubs Basset Hound Rescue and Sunny Meadows Safe Haven for pets. Please check out these websites and fall in love! www.bellyrubs.org www.sunnymeadows.org Questions? Favorite Music: Bob Dylan, My Morning Jacket, North Mississippi Allstars, The Flaming Lips, Junior Kimbrough, Ray Lamontagne, M.Ward, Lucinda Williams, R.L. Burnside, Cedric Burnside and Jay-Z. (I think Jay-Z would surprisingly fit in nicely with that crew).

Favorite Books and Writers: I'm completely addicted to words. All F.Scott Fitzgerald's prose was under my belt before I entered 9th grade AP English. Hunter S Thompson became my literary idol in high school and has remained so ever since. Every night I dream that Hunter S. Thompson is my father and that I'm his only child, Penelope Fitzgerald Thompson. Life changing literature suggestions: "Gonzo," "The Gonzo Papers," "The Proud Highway," "The Great Shark Hunt," "Better than Sex Confessions of a political junkie," "Dias De Ron" all written by Hunter S. Thompson. (Yes, I meant to leave out "The Rum Diary" as it's not one of my personal favorites). I carry a copy of "Sex, Drugs & Cocoa Puffs" by Chuck Klosterman on me at all times and I quote it so much that it annoys people. Additionally, I'm even contemplating stalking Klosterman. My niece recently introduced to me the prose of Chuck Palahniuk and I'm just starting his collection...so far, I dig it! Jim James (of My Morning Jacket) and Bob Dylan (of Bob freaking Dylan) are also two literary Gods that have altered my life with their words. Literature, lyrics and poetry are constantly floating about in my mind. "Don't let your silly dreams fall inbetween the crack of the bed and the wall." ~JJ

I am most proud of: Making a career out of something I absolutely LOVE to do, being able to turn a cartwheel while wearing roller skates, the personal growth I've made over the last 5 years, bringing the word "RAD" back into popular circulation, retiring my vindictive side and not striking back at those who strike me, learning all the words to "Rappers Delight" by Sugarhill Gang, becoming a published writer, always taking the time to give back in some form no matter how small and I'm also proud of that whole college graduation thing...

I am most guilty of: "If I'd written all the truth I knew for the past ten years, about 600 people - including me - would be rotting in prison cells from Rio to Seattle today. Absolute truth is a very rare and dangerous commodity in the context of professional journalism."
-Hunter S. Thompson

The world would be a better place, if only: If only everyone understood that there is no such thing as an inappropriate time to bust out "Ice Ice Baby" by Vanilla Ice! Weddings, Funerals, Bar Mitzvahs, Kwanzaa...It's NEVER a bad idea. Word to ya muthas!

Words I live by: "A lot of journalists have this strategy where if they have a hard question they wait to ask it at the end of the interview because they think the person is going to walk out. What they have to realize is, is that if the person walks out after the first question, they have a pretty successful story."
-Chuck Klosterman
