FEBRUARY - Sinful Issue (Published)
This could apply to most anything, but alas, no erotica.
MARCH - What If? Issue (Published)
What if you’d stayed single/married, moved somewhere different, taken a chance you didn’t take?
APRIL - Scrumptious Issue (Published)
Write us some deliciousness. Doesn’t have to be food-related. Use your imagination, but no recipes.
MAY - Escape Issue (Published)
If you could run away where would you go? What’s your escape route? What does escape mean to you? No traditional travel features please.
JUNE - The Yes Issue (Published)
A time when you said Yes to life, or didn’t, but no proposal/wedding stories unless they are truly unusual.
JULY - Red, White & True Blue Issue (Published)
Each essay must have a color in the title.
AUGUST - The Challenge Issue (Published)
The title says it all. Facing a challenge, throwing out a challenging, turning down a challenge, and so on.
SEPTEMBER - The Rules Issue (Published)
Rules you’ve broken, rules you’ve obeyed, rules for living.
OCTOBER - The Open House Issue
Each essay must focus on a particular room (kitchen, bathroom, closet, dining etc). Not DIY.
NOVEMBER - The Conversation Issue
Essays should relate to a particular conversation the writer has had.
DECEMBER - The Surprise Issue
Surprise us with an elegant, funny or insightful essay on the topic of suprises.
A personal essay is a narrative that emphasizes a personal, subjective view. All essays for consideration should be submitted in their entirety and be between 800 and 1,100 words. Essays must fit one of the monthly themes above. Please review the Contributor Guidelines carefully for format requirements. Submissions for a particular theme are due minimally by the 1st of the prior month.
