My favorite ads

Monday, August, 25, 2008

Every month, I wait for our issue to go to print. Sure, I love to see all the stories I’ve been working on placed in the layout and observe the finished product once and for all. But mostly because I’m waiting to see the Davis & Millard ad for the month.

Davis & Millard is a law office specializing in divorce and pre-nups in Atlanta that may have the funniest, most colorful ads I’ve ever seen. They always get a belly laugh out of me. Here’s this month’s:

They are usually aimed at women and losing some drag of a husband like this one (above). Or sometimes they go after men with something like this (below):

But my favorite is how female-centric and empowering these ads are at a time in a woman’s life when she probably doesn’t feel very empowered at all. Basically urging them to get back up on the horse. Get out there. See what’s next in store for you. Like these two ads:

(I wish my yard guy looked like that!) While I’m not looking to get a pre-nup or get divorced, I am addicted to these ads. I guess I am in awe of the power of advertising and how this one business has turned something serious and awful, into something to see the humor in. It makes the whole thing a bit easier to swallow.

What are some of  your favorite ads?

If I were in the market for a divorce attorney (sometimes I wonder why I seem to be the only woman around who isn't!) I'd be drawn to these ads/this legal group for their sense of humor. I mean, that's a time when a sense of humor has to be crucial!

I am just thinking of some of my other fave ads like the Budweiser and Bud Light ads and how sexist they are, and yet, how much I still enjoy them! I always feel bad for laughing, but they get me every time. Oh! And I like the new rollover minutes ads, about people in starving countries not even having rollover minutes. Can't help myself!
