Strep Throat is a Detour

Tuesday, August, 19, 2008

Following on the detour theme, today was a definite detour. Yesterday I woke up with a sore throat, but I chose to ignore it because I had so much to do at work and I needed to release a special section to the printer.

So I went to work and endured the pain through the day. Not only did my throat hurt, my taste buds were shot so nothing tasted right. Besides I didn’t really have a great appetite either. My body ached all morning, but after lunch I convinced myself that I felt better.

This morning I woke up around 5 a.m. in severe pain. I chastised myself for not putting Vicks on my throat before going to bed. I got up and did that and I got a cough drop. As soon as I had finished the cough drop I drifted off to sleep again. When the alarm went off at 6:30 I knew there was no way I was going to make it into work today.

Missing a day of work probably doesn’t sound like such a big deal except that I was also planning on taking Thursday and Friday as vacation days.  I didn’t take vacation all summer, so I just want to take a couple of days to spend some time with the kids and to take them somewhere before school starts.

We have a really busy week with uniform shopping, ice cream social for my daughter at her school and meeting the teacher. Fun day on Thursday and Friday is my son’s “meet and greet” at his new school.  I didn’t plan on being sick. It throws my week off.

As I was typing this blog entry I received a call from my doctor’s office telling me that my husband tested positive for strep throat. How lovely!  “Life is what happens when we are making other plans.” Every time.

I told the nurse that I also have a severe sore throat and now I have to go in to see the doctor today. I have to take my son in too because he started us all off with a sore throat, but we thought it was just a regular sore throat and we treated it with over the counter medication. He never ran a fever and he didn’t say that it hurt.

Off we go to the doctor! And the detours continue…

I'm so sorry that you're feeling under the weather. You didn't take a single day off all summer??? It sounds like God is taking matters into His own hands! Rest, relax and enjoy. That's a fellow Skirt!blogger order! :-D (Wish I could give a great suggestion for being in several places at once, since it definitely sounds like your week is even busier than usual... just this... listen curiously to life's possibilities and then trust the unfolding...the best solution will present itself!
