You wouldn’t know it to look at me, but I love to workout. I know, but I do. The Y where I live is hooked into a great program called Fitlinxx. Fitlinxx keeps track of your movements, weights, seat positions, and range of motion for you while you’re doing circuit training. I have a fond dislike for the bicep curls and the overhead shoulder press isn’t a friend either- but afterwords they do good things.
I have a loving relationship with the arc trainer as well. The arc trainer, if you’re not familiar, is like Tony Little’s gazelle, only pro. Computerized with inclines and resistance, your legs go back and forth in, guess what, an arc (!!) in a movement that is between an elliptical and a treadmill- but it burns a bazillion calories and melts fat off. When I first did it, 7 minutes was killer, but before I knew it, I could do 20, and when I was at my peak, my friend and I visited for an hour.
However, poverty set in and it cost me more to go to the Y than it did for the monthly membership. Something had to go. After a few months, your fitlinxx account is disabled- and mine was. I had to do the walk of shame. But, I got a job and was too busy. Then I quit the job. But it was summer. Husband is making it to the Y and they do have nursery, but still, I did not want to face the gym just yet.
The kids are in school now. My shorts are a bit more snug. My manuscript has been edited for the second time. My Mobsters level on MySpace is increasing. In short, I theoretically have more time, but if given the chance, I will not manage it well. So I told hubby to ask the fitness people to reactivate my account. And we are to be reintroduced in the morning.
Come tomorrow, I will not want to go. I’m sure I’ll have another perfectly good excuse. But I’ll make hubby push me. And soon, the smaller clothes will fit comfortably. And I won’t dread seeing myself in pictures. (Thank God that when I work out, I lose weight in my face almost instantly.) And before I know it, this will be my habit again. And my life will be better because when I put myself in the center, everything else seems to fall into place.
If you have a Fitlinxx account and want to challenge me, let me know! Send me something at writerreneeck@gmail.com. Let’s melt away together.
Enjoy!

How I love/hate the arc trainer. There is a fitness center at my job and they have 2 of them. The first time I used it, it was only because the ellipticals were taken, but then it became my favorite thing. And for some reason, they're not that popular- they're always available even if the gym is full. Good luck to you on re-establishing your gym habits!

It's weird isn't it? Liking to workout, but actually hating to go and do it? I'm actually trying to talk myself into/out of working out at this very moment. If I don't do it VERY FIRST THING in the morning I can usually forget about it. Your blog has inspired me. I'm getting off my butt right now!
