Okay I confess! I *hate* this part. Whether it's for MySpace or Tribe or worse- a job interview, the open-ended request to talk about myself is painful - like a needle to the eye. Or like a 103 foot drop on a roller coaster. My advice: Read my blogs! You'll get to know me that way...eventually.... ...

Hot Naan & Slow Subs: Food for Friendship

You’ve had one of “those days” haven’t you? Where no matter how expertly you’ve planned, everything just seems to be a bit off beat?

Welcome to my trip to Charlotte last weekend!

I had this grand idea to see RUSH, a band I was really into...ah...let’s just say a long, long time ago. Nostalgia was needling me probably because the guys have been touring for over 30 years. I mean how much longer can it last?!?!

 Oh- here they are NOW:

And THEN:

And somewhere IN-BETWEEN:

My buddy Sonja, the good sport that she is, was my RUSH date. We decided to leave extra early for two reasons: A dinner somewhere yummy and a leisurely drive to Charlotte. It was Sunday after all.

Somehow we managed to overshoot the Indian restaurant by 15 exits! I haven’t been to Charlotte enough;I was looking for the downtown skyline. Apparently it’s not so apparent off 85....And Sonja was deep into her GPS looking for our exit number right when – yes, you guessed it – we had just passed it! Of course we got lost a little more before finding our restaurant but our spirits returned when the smell of hot garlic naan wafted from our long-awaited eatery as we walked through the front door.

Too bad we didn’t actually eat there. Yep you heard that right. They were super busy. We had lost our extra padding of time turning the car around 100 times instead of turning on our digestive tracks.

Okay, time for Plan B or was it Plan C? There was a sub shop next door. Twenty-five minutes after our order they had our subs ready.

Was this day for real?

We took the subs to go and picnicked in the amphitheater parking lot on my Element’s “tailgate.” We figured we had a few minutes. I mean the concert wouldn’t start on time of course. And then there’s an opening band...right? Wrong. On both counts.

Stomachs finally full we headed for the amphitheater. Halfway there I heard “Limelight.” Yes, it was RUSH and I was crushed. We had missed the start of the concert. A mortal sin in my music book. sonja_faun_RUSH.bmp

But we did not fall into the hole of frustration that was widening around us! We were there to see RUSH and, well, we were gonna have fun! It took a moment or two to catch up with the rest of the audience but we did. RUSH rocked us in their very virtuoso way.

And it was worth all the bumps along the way. Which led me to the realization that bumps are always better with friends. ROCK CONCERTS ARE TOO!

Check out some cool concert shots of the Snake & Arrows tour below.
