Staycation, all I never wanted?

Thursday, July, 17, 2008

I’m inclined to agree with the Traveling Mamas:  I’ve heard entirely too much about the glories of the staycation.  Sure, staying at home instead of traveling this summer is fine, smart, great and all that.  But just that word “staycation” bugs mestaycationfloors.jpg

Or it did until this week.

I’m staying at a friend’s house for a few days while my floors are being refinished, and it’s making me think my staycation variation is a fine idea.  I haven’t traveled far.  The accommodations are free. Coffee is brewed and ready when I wake up.  And I’ve managed to “get away” and still not miss a day of work.

To be a polite houseguest, I watched the movie An American in Paris last night, on a VHS player no less.  It was great!  I would never have done that at home.  Just waking up in the morning and walking around a Jenny_stacation.jpgdifferent neighborhood, spending more time with a friend than I usually get to—these have made my temporary relocation fun.

As soon as my floors dry and the furniture is back in place, I’m thinking of inviting some friends to staycation with me.  I’d write more, but I’ve got to go:  my host is serving evening snacks in the parlor.  And we have Bride and Prejudice to watch on DVD.
