Why is it that the northern part of Florida is referred to as “North” Florida, and the northern part of California is referred to as “Northern” California (often abbreviated as “NorCal” for Cali babies like myself--and oh yes, I do have the T-shirt!)? It doesn’t make sense to me. Someone please enlighten me!
