Maybe it was because I’d written up this bee event for our skirt! calendar. Last week, a repeat of a PBS documentary on bees caught my eye (which is not my usual sort of thing). It was fascinating.
Silence of the Bees showed, among other things, what has happened to a community in China since all of their bees were killed by DDT. Talk about a food production crisis.
One way you can help to slow the declining bee population world-wide is to buy local honey and support local beekeepers. Some local bee experts will be presenting a free program, tomorrow at 2 at the Lexington County Main Library, for anyone 6 years and up.
If you’re interested in the PBS bee program, you can watch it online here.
