When Jessica Leigh graduated with a degree in creative writing, she figured she'd be slinging lattes for the rest of her life, so she shaved her head, moved into a VW bus and set off for Alaska. Good thing the van broke down just north of San Francisco, because she just hates cold weather. Her baris...

Going Bald For Boobs

Monday, June, 23, 2008

tatas.jpgI hate hearing that a yet another young woman has been diagnosed with breast cancer. This time it’s spunky Blair Schrautemeier, a 26-year-old bartender at The Rail Pub in Savannah, diagnosed last month and scheduled for a double whammy mastectomy.

Her friends and family have organized a benefit cocktail party for her tonight – $20 bucks gets ya booze, food and up-front seats to the spectacle of some of Blair’s friends shaving their heads in solidarity. Additional donations accepted!

Blair’s Derby Devil cohort (and fabulous bloggess) Dana Clark Felty passed on the details:

“Going Bald for Boobs” Cocktail Party

What: A benefit for 26-year-old Blair Schrautemeier of Savannah, recently diagnosed with breast cancer.

When: 6-10 p.m. Monday, June 23 (TONIGHT!)

Where: The Rail Pub, 405 W. Congress St.on Franklin Square

Price: $20, which includes cocktails and hors d’oeuvres

The public is invited. Call at 238-1311 for information.

“Friends, coworkers and supporters of breast cancer awareness are invited to a “Going Bald for Boobs” Cocktail Party and benefit for Blair from 6-10 p.m. Monday, June 23 at The Rail Pub on Franklin Square. The cost to attend is $20, which includes complimentary cocktails and hors d’oeuvres and a silent auction, featuring work by local artists, gift certificates and a skateboard.

In solidarity with Blair, some friends are taking donations to shave their heads. They include Melissa Swanson from The Rail Pub, Marika Smith from Home Depot, Tracy Harvey from America’s Second Harvest Food Bank and Tim Rollinger from Allstate Insurance. Proceeds from the event will help Blair pay for medical care, prescriptions and living expenses while she’s unable to work.”

Unfortunately, I can’t make it (bringing small children to bars is still frowned upon, no matter how good the cause) but we here at skirt! want to give Blair a copy of Kris Carr’s Crazy Sexy Cancer Tips – may she read it in good health!
