                    WELLNESS :   ALKALIZE TO ENERGIZE

We are bombarded with so much information that one way wonder how in the world can I make an informed decision about my over all health and well being?  Through education people have finally started to realize that waiting for symptoms or disease to present itself is all ready the beginning of the end and that being proactive about your own health is certainly better than being reactive.  What did mother always say, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!  Diet, Exercise and Proper Hydration is key to maintaining optimal health.   Creating a lifestyle that incorporates these three key elements is the first step in prevention.  We need to focus our attention on wellness not on sickness.    So how do we do that?  One of the simplest yet most effective ways of maintaining wellness is maintaining a proper balance between acidity and alkalinity in your body often referred to as pH.

WHAT IS pH?

pH is the value given to indicate acidity or alkalinity.  The scale ranges from 0 to 14.

The low end of the scale indicates acid and the high end of the scale indicates alkaline with 7.0 being neutral.   It’s really no different than the pH of your pool.  You want balance.  You don’t want to swim in acid and you don’t want to swim in green muck either.  Maintaining a balance that is slightly on the alkaline side (7.35 to 7.45) is the most effective way to improving your health.  The body fluids that need to be in balance are blood, saliva, and urine.  Testing your saliva or urine is simple to do.   pH test paper also known as litmus paper indicates pH values by changing colors according to the numerical value of   on the scale with yellow (0-7) indicating acid and green (8-14) indicating alkaline.

WHY CHECK pH?

Checking pH is most important because it is an excellent way to see how your body is responding to your Diet, Exercise and Hydration.  By changing one, two or all three will directly impact your pH balance.  It should also be noted that stress will also impact pH balance.  When the pH of your internal environment is balanced your body is able to function at its optimal ability.   This is how you evaluate the whole bodies functioning.  It is not to be confused with disease identifying.  Checking your pH is not a diagnostic test.

WHAT CAN WE DO AND WHY?

We need to look at what we are putting in our bodies and replenish the nutrients needed to keep us more to the alkaline side.  Protein foods end product is acid residue and vegetables and fruits are alkaline.  Which the later should be 80% of your diet. This allows to replenish nutrients to keep the internal environment less acid.

Making our generation to eat healthy is like asking a drug addict nicely to choose drug rehabilitation. It will never happen, especially not with the teenagers today. They love fast food too much.
