So I think I’m gonna run with this book club thing. I’m not sure if it’s the light at the end of my school year tunnel, or the fact that I love to have literary conversations with those capable of constructing a complex/compound sentence and not need a nap or a fat ‘ol oxygen mask afterwards. Who knows? But here’s what I need help with, ‘cause I ain’t Oprah, y’all!
1. Pick a book. Might I highly recommend Autobiography of a Face by Lucy Grealy.Google it. I ordered it from Amazon yesterday, used, for about $2.00, as I like to keep books that move me, in order to lend ‘em to people I like when I’m finished.
2. After we choose said book, we’ll need to set up some sort of schedule. I think this is the part that scares me most, ‘cause at my core, I am an artsy, unorganized, fly by the seat of my big ass pants fluff. I only schedule for my classes, and some home stuff in an attempt to encourage a semblance of order for my kids, so’s they don’t grow up to be flaky like their ma. On topic, we need to figure out how many chapters to read, when we should finish, etc. This should be LEISURELY, as I have two spawn that only allow me to read when their not conscious.
3. Pick a day for book talk. Since my brain is always mad full of stuff that I want to purge, I think one day a week, on a specific topic/chapter, should be plenty.
So that’s it for now. Let’s start tossing around ideas for the book to begin with, and we’ll go from there!
I’m excited!
It sounds good though. I have Campbell's Blood orange : a novel and Flock's Me & Emma waiting for me at the library after they were suggested on my Facebook reading shelf. Maybe one of those can be for next time.
Anyone else in?
