What is SJP wearing on her head?

This is a picture of the SATC gals at the world premiere of the movie in London.  I know Sarah Jessica Parker likes to take fashion risks, but isn't this hat a bit much?  Green roses and yellow butterflies!

Rumor has it SJP had 81 costume changes during the filming of the movie.  I just hope Carrie doesn't wear any hats like this one!

And why was the world premier in London and not New York, the city where it's set?  According to the Telegraph, SJP had a very PC comment despite the fact that her character has a love affair with New York through all six seasons of the show.  "This is where New Line Cinema decided to do it, so we started here. We are thrilled to be in London and we will be thrilled to take it to America."

Cynthia Nixon, who plays Miranda, tried to placate American fans saying, "We're having a kind of smallish premiere here; we're having a smallish premiere in Berlin.  We're building to the New York premiere which is enormous and happens just before the film opens worldwide.”

The movie opens Friday, May 30 here in the U.S.  So get ready girls!

I wonder if it wasn't her jab at Camilla Parker-Bowles-Windsor's awful hat parade during her last wedding?!

You're right, she does take fashion risks and I don't know that this one was the right one. We'll call it a sprained ankle and pray that she recovers by Berlin!

I am not a fan of this hat and it's odd to me that the premiere wasn't in NYC. Still, I'm a die-hard SATC fan. My girlfriends and I have already bought our movie tickets and can not wait for the 30th!! ~ Alexis

...with the hat contraption. I'm judging outfits for a Sex and The City premiere party in St. Pete, Fla - and no one wearing the SJP head number is likely to win any of my votes. Not sure if this would have survived a Derby hat event either.

i LOVE the hat! i think it takes a certain person to have the confidence to carry something like that off, a lot of women are hesitant to really put themselves out there in something other than a lbd. in vogue, sjp said: "I can look back at pictures of myself with the great assurance that I will be embarrassed by about 60 percent of them. This is the nature of fashion." fashion is practically the 5th character on SATC, what better place to go all out than at the premiere?

As a confirmed hat person for life, I think SJP shows a marvelous sense of moxie with this (though I suspect her milliner may have been smoking some banana peels.) it fits with the character she portrays. If at the very least you have to be in awe of the mechanics it must have taken to keep it on her head! I do feel sorry for the person that had to sit behind her throughout the premier.
