In a ballsy move, I walked out of my job Tuesday night. Apparently me working from home when my son was sick, taking him to the doctor, and me going to the dentist was a problem. Regardless of what my boss feels towards me, my co-workers and I are still friends. I worked less than 5 miles from the office so when one of my co-workers texted me and said she missed me, I told her I was not to be missed as I only live up the street. I invited her and the others for lunch which we enjoyed today.
My direct co-worker is a huge water drinker. Knowing this, I pulled out my water pitcher. The inexpensive one I registered for when I got married almost 13 years ago now. It’s seriously nothing special, just a clear crystal water pitcher. My roses are in full bloom so I tucked some blooms from the spray roses and petals from the oversized John F. Kennedy’s in under the ice and on top. I served chocolate ice cream in wine glasses and garnished them with chocolate mint leaves from my herb garden. The girls were impressed not only because of the little touches, but that the touches came from my own yard.
I have to laugh because it really wasn’t all that big of a deal. I had surgery several years ago and my grandparents gave my mom money to buy me flowers. She gave me the money which I used to buy my rose bushes. Somehow the $25 has lasted through 2 Don Juan climbing rose bushes, the John F. Kennedy and Belinda’s Dream rose bushes and will continue to fund all future attempts at rose gardens, successful or not. I am in denial about how little life my grandparents have left but they will forever live with me in my roses. My Belinda’s Dream shrub rose is so heavy with blooms that I couldn’t help but trim some off to put in my house and in a shallow bowl of water on the table.
Because I cook and because my friend’s mom who I’ve always thought was very elegant had one, I’ve always wanted an herb garden. When we put in the walls around my patio when we extended the 12’x12’ slab, I asked for planter walls where we could grow plants. The one side has my herbs. They smell lovely and are right behind the grill for ease of use when cooking.
So, I do this to make myself happy. I love that they make other people happy. My friends said my patio looks like it belongs in a magazine. I wouldn’t go that far, but it is nice to share my efforts. Funny how impressed people are with a few small touches.
Ciao!
