~6 Degrees of Separation

~ My sweet dears, anybody who reads my blogs already knows Mercy Adhiambo;  my assertive, brilliant, spectacular, insightful pen pal, whom I loooove, and who will one day will be the first female Prime Minister of all of Kenya.  Whew, that was a big wind.   With the help of some very good friends from MacArthur Elementary, we are sending Mercy to college in Nariobi.  Thus far, she is pulling a 3.8 grade point average.

Brava, Mercy!    Hip Hip Hooray!       Ms. Prime Minister!        Ms. Thang!

She is amaaaaaaaaaaaazing.  She is my Hero.  And she writes...this is how we met in the first place.  WORDS!  This has been my greatest link to the rest of the universe.  Always. Always. Forever.

Anyhow, Mercy is home in Kisumu at the moment on Winter Break.  Her grandma knows Barack Obama’s grandma, which is VERY cool, indeed.  She just sent me this photo of her sitting with Obama’s grandma below.  What thrills me the most is how we are all connected, all sisters and brothers...all in this crazy world together.

 Beautiful.

Mercy says Obama is traveling to Kenya next month.  Perhaps, she can get us more photos.  The Kenyas are wild about Obama and also have a day named after him.

~Here is Mercy (my hero and friend) with Obama’s grandma....Is this awesome or what ?! Is this Coooool or what?

~ Mercy Ahiambo with Barack Obama’s Grandmother...Kisumu, Kenya / Jan. 2, 2009

***Note....my special thanks to Andy Robinson, my son, who took the time (cuz his mom is a dork), to fit this dog-gone photo into my blog!!!!!!!!   It took a looooong time ,and he missed the Liverpool soccer game.  Ooops a daisy.

Extra~~~ Mercy just sent me this email about President Obama’s Grandma.....

Hallo, Kim

I have seen the blog. Its nice. Obama's Grandma is called Sarah, she travels to the USA today. Obama isnt coming, it is his grandma who is going to America.

Sarah said that she wishes Obama's children would learn the native language. They cannot communicate because his grandma Sarah cannot speak English, she doesn't understand any English word. She is a good woman, she welcomes everybody to her home, she receives so many guests, mostly prominent people.

Her home is near my grandma's home. She wasnt that popular before Obama became president.

Have a good day

Mercy

Kim, it is AMAZING how small

Kim, it is AMAZING how small this world is! I love it. Connected people everywhere. Now...if we could all figure out how to live on this earth peacefully! -gina

Awesome indeed! I'm actually

Awesome indeed! I'm actually canceling class 1/20 and making my students create a literacy lesson that is related to the inauguration. I am SO excited for the future- not that I expect miracles, but as Sheryl Crow says, "A change would do you good..." I agree, Sheryl. It could do us all some good.

:)

How nice to see more news on Mercy. I live for these blogs!!!!

elizabeth cassidy,

elizabeth cassidy, CC Certified Life, Transition and Intuition Coach This just goes to show how closely we are all related. What a great person for Sarah to meet - your Mercy. The future. And kudos to you and your school for making Mercy's future possible. We can all do it together! Great blog and I think your son is wonderful! Tell him to call me so he can show me how to get pictures in!! :-)

This is so wonderful!

I would like to help Mercy, too -- I live and breathe words (to write and to read!) so I would love to assist. Can you let me know how? I absolutely adored Mercy's email to you -- I laughed when I read the honesty in the words about Grandma's lack of popularity until recently! Thanks for the update!

This post makes me feel

This post makes me feel really hopeful, Kim, which is a feeling I'd forgotten since election night. Thanks for the lift and congrats to Mercy.
