I join my voice with thousands of others this week in counting my blessings. Things I’m thankful for... in ABC order.
A: Aveda Institute, a new-to-Birmingham salon bringing quality haircuts at an affordable price.
B: Burt’s Bees Eucalyptus Hand Salve. It gets me through the chapped winter months.
C: Craigslist, for the treasures it’s brought into my home.
D: Dark grey, coming in to replace the “chocolate browns” of the trend color palate.
E: Etsy, for all of its get-off-your-tookus-and-create inspiration.
F: Family dinners with friends. And for that matter, friends: in different locations, vocations and lifestages. God bless them all.
G: Grapples. (Hybrid grape + apple). I tried them for the first time this year, and while I didn’t love the texture/flavor combination, I’m glad to have had the experience.
H: Holiday weekends.
I: Ingrid Michaelson’s music. She captured my heart this year.
J: Jeans to work. Three cheers for a (more) casual work environment.
K: Kashi. It’s my favorite cereal, okay? K’s are hard.
L: Lattes from Primavera Coffee Roasters.
M: Myspace, for providing the backdrop to my daily grind.
N: Netflix, and the fact that I am a benefactor of my neighbor’s subscription to it.
O: Orange that is Wild and Sweet.
P: Photoshop, and learning how to use it. Hurrah for personal technological advances!
Q: Avenue Q tickets on December 16th to go uptown with skirt! (Shameless plug.)
R: Reading. I’ve found many-a-fictional-friend in the pages of a good book.
S: skirt!, of course, for the opportunities it has provided me to meet and tell the stories of some absolutely incredible individuals in our midst.
T: Terry. He’s my work best friend (wbf) and a godsend to the skirt! office.
U: Urban Standard. A welcome addition to 2nd Avenue.
V: Volvos, particularly, mine (Greta).
W: Writing – “the only thing that when I do it, I don’t feel like I should be doing something else.” -Gloria Steinem
X: uhhhhhh
Y: You, skirt! reader, for welcoming us to Birmingham and providing the fodder for our magazine.
Z: Zebras.
