Taking a Poll about the Polls: Do You Reveal Who You Voted For?
By Ginger, Tuesday, November 4, 2008This morning the line at the polls was filled with so much excitement (plus donuts and coffee and tea!) If I didn’t know better, I’d swear we were waiting in line to buy tickets to see Tina Turner! The real reason, of course, is even better. We are impacting the course of events for our country. As I arrived at my appointments throughout the day, I heard people talking -- some happily, some heatedly. And I wondered what I would say if someone asked me how I voted? I have always kept my voting preferences to myself, even to my son, even to my husband when we were married. The research I do is frequent and sometimes contradictory; the issues I feel strongly about grow and change over the years depending on where I’m at and where my country “is at;” the reasons I vote for whom I vote are complex, even to me. I enjoy discussing and debating the philosophies of our political leaders and leader-wannabes, but in the end, who I choose is a decision I have always kept to myself -- whether it be local politics, national politics, school politics, referendums. I am open to others’ thoughts, opinions and beliefs -- I generally don’t try to convince anybody of any particular candidate, but rather, I often ask quesitons about how they feel regarding issues -- but I don’t know if all of my friends and colleagues are quite that open. I’ve heard some interesting exchanges between “friends” and spouses. So, I was wondering -- how many of you reveal for whom you’ve voted? Do you tell just family, or just close friends, or your kids, or perfect strangers or no one at all? I’d love to know who you tell (not necessarily who you voted for!) Today’s the Day!
Thanks!
