Why I Should Be the VP Candidate

Wednesday, October, 22, 2008

At the risk of incurring the wrath of my fellow feminists, I am yet again blogging about Sarah Palin.  Today I read that the Republican National Committee has spent more than $150,000 to clothe and accessorize the Republican VP candidate.

Should I even write about this trivia when there are much bigger issues at stake in this campaign? Of course not.

Should I complain that the wardrobes of male candidates (give or take a few haircuts and loafers) are not scrutinized to the same degree as those of the female candidates? Of course I should.

But I am not dealing with those issues today. Today, I want to talk about why I should be the VP candidate.

I don't have any qualifications or experience to be the VP and I'm not a hockey mom. But I am a soccer mom and I do serve on the PTO. I'm co-president, in fact.

Sign me up for the job, any job, where I can expense shopping sprees at Saks, Barneys, Bloomies and Neimans. That's where I have real experience.

If I were the VP candidate, I would support women's rights – especially the right to spend, spend, spend!

Elizabeth wrote a blog about this, too! It is pretty ridiculous, considering that even if she donates all those clothes when everything's said and done, most places like Dress for Success need things in sizes 14-16 and Palin is much smaller than that. And if she'd just shopped at regular department stores (or my love, Target), she'd have a lot more clothes to donate.

Sunny......I've already commented on Elizabeth's blog as well but I didn't want to be slanted so I thought I would let you know, that with all of your experience, I will consider voting for you. I'm not a soccer mom, but I am a football mom and I know what it takes to juggle the schedules of life, kids, work and beauty...LOL unfortunately, I don't have $150K to donate to your campaign for clothes, so you will have to settle for a $15 trophy that simply says your a supermom!!!!

The New York Times says Palin's appearance didn't change dramatically but the cost of her clothing did (http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/23/us/politics/23style.html) which prompted Cindi Leive, the editor in chief of Glamour magazine, to say, "My first reaction when I heard about this was, ‘Honey, I could have dressed you for a lot less than that.’ ” Doesn't that make you wonder if they really did spend the money on wardrobe? Maybe the veep has a secret deep fried Twinkie habit that she's supporting?
