The grass is always greener on the other side.
Born and raised small business, I must admit that I remember thinking of Corporate America as a magical fantasy land of sparkling skyscrapers, chic suits and the incredible power to make a positive difference in the world.
Bright eyed, idealistic and a fresh recruit, I could hardly hide my excitement as I arrived downtown for my very first day.
I guess I expected a Mary Tyler Moore moment, but instead…. Round and round to the sixth floor of the garage, down the elevator to the ground, across two intersections, up a staircase, through security, up the elevator, down two hallways…
Approaching the door, I held my breath in anticipation as I awaited a visual on my new creative playground. Hello, professional journalism!
Tada! Ummm…. or not?
Seriously, am I dreaming? Wait a second, I can't write a coherent sentence in this place.
Devoid of windows, crammed with hundreds of people, phones ringing and stacks of jumbled paper rising from every corner…
Is this really where the magic happens?
Less than a year later, I have realized I am a small business girl in a big corporate world.
But either way, I always write from the comfort of my own home.

That is funny - I thought the same thing when I was little. I visioned myself in a shiny black skirt suit walking the streets of downtown, briefcase in hand, excited for what might happen next. Hmmm....jeans will do, thanks :)
